Bissam cuttack is a census town in Rayagada district in the state of Odisha, India.
Good morning from Bissam Cuttack, often pronounced Bishama Katek.
Bhishama stands for Bhishma, the Kuru warrior from the epic of Mahabharata and Katek means town.
Why Bhishma? Because Bhishma took a pledge to extreme, the pledge of celibacy.
So what was extreme about Bishama Katek to get that name?
The place has a bad history of Malaria,
and the number of people who lost their lives to malaria was way too extreme.
The Christian Hospital in Bissam Cuttack was the first Indian Hospital to run a community based,
self supporting Malaria Control Programme using impregnated mosquito nets.
It is surrounded by the great Niyamgiri Hill. Small canals like Markama Nala, Mundabandha Nala, Gate Nala and Rata
Tikiri Nala surrounds the village in 4 directions of this Village.
It is one of the identified Tourist Spot of Odisha.
