My trip to wonferful Santorini.

Hello dear friends,

Today I would like to tell you about my trip to Santorini 2 years ago

The history.

Accoding to the legend,Santorini rose up from the depth of the sea and this ,in combination with the eraption of the volcano. The first signs of the life were evident in the mid 3rd century B.C.The name Santorini ,which is a contraction of the name Santa Irini, was given to the island by the Latin Empire referencing the name of old cathedral of Saint Irene, the ruins of which were discovered in 1992 at the food of the mountain in the village of Perissa.

In 1613 B.C. was the large volcanic eruption of circa.

During 2 days we visited two main towns and small villages.

FIRA.

Fira-the capital of Santorini. It dominates the west side of the island, built high up on sharp cliff at the altitude 250 m above sea level. We admire white washed houses, alleyways, museum of Prehistoric Thera,Archaelogical museum. There you can sit in cosy cafe ,drink coffee and admire bird’s eye view over Caldera. Here you can find the most outstanding beauty hotels, restaurants, shops. But they are not cheap!)

OIA.

Oia-is the most graphic village of the island with fantastic view ,marvelous mansions. At free time you can walk along the streets and admire the old neo-classical manors, the manmade eyries that seem to hang on the edge of the precipice.

In the evening we can enjoied sunset,it is magical!People arriving from around the world to gaze it charming sunset.

PERISSA.

The beautiful and gorgeous beaches of Perissa–an extensive coastline -5 km long. The fine black sand ,the crystal clear water create the comfort for all visitors who wants enjoy the sea and local cuisine. In local taverns we tasted traditional Greek dish FAVA(mashed peas)

If you will have possibility --you need to taste excellent local wine! It is wonderful and delisious.

I

It is famous black sand of Santorini.

Some words about ancient vineyard. The grapes were grown and cultivated since 17 th century B.C.The volcanic soil contribute to the production of high quality wine. The rock-hewn wineries are important sightseeing destination for the island.

The rare natural beauty ,the rich history, the unique of this island made Santorini one of the world’s top and most attractive destinations.

Do you know that famous writer Jules Vern wrote his novel here ‘’ 20 000 Leagues Under the Sea’'?

Santorini was his main souse of inspiration in writting his novel ‘’ The Misterious Island’’

I advice you to visit this island.

You can take ferry from island Crete ,it take 2 hours to get to Santorini.

Hi @helga19 ,

Thank you for sharing your trip experience to Santorini with us.

The place looks amazing, your photos are just great, it looks like you had a lot of fun. The information that you wrote is really detailed as well.

Last summer I wanted to go there with my family, but unfortunately we canceled the trip in the last moment, so for sure this is a place where I would like to go in future.

Hello @helga19 ,

Thank you for making us travel through your photos and details. Santorini has always been a dream to me, never had to chance to visit it, but it’s definitely on my to-do list. I had several friends who went there are told me only beautiful things about it. The atmosphere, the white and blue colored houses, simply magical.

After Santorini, the place that I would like to see in Greece is Meteora, have you been there?

Thank you @PaDeSSo

Sure ,it is great memory for me,because I dreamed to visit this amazing places and see everything with your own eyes, not in the picture. From what I saw, from the beautiful white blue houses and the sea- it was breathtaking.Beaches with clean water and black sand! There are still beaches with pink or red sand, but I did not take a picture.

Thank you for reminding me of this gorgeous island @helga19 !

Like you, Santorini was in my Top 10 places to visit so I started planning my trip to the Greek island two years ago. We managed to visit it in May when the weather was already hot but without too many tourists. I was able to fully enjoy its beauty.

I was so excited to be there that I woke up every morning before the sunrise and went to the beach waiting for the sun to come up.

Oia was a marvellous little town. I really liked the small shops where you could buy souvenirs or colourful night lamps. Did you buy something to remember your trip? And did you see the sunset? It is believed that Oia is the best place to watch it?

Thank you @BorrisS for your comment.

Sure, Santorini-the place ,which is a dream of many people ,who like to travel. It is included in the list of those places ,10 or more, who wants to see in their lives. It is very romantic place. The sunsets are adorable.Lovely and beautiful white blue houses are in harmony with the beauty of the sea.And sitting in a cafe which like the swallow’s nest is located on the cliffs to watch the sunset and the sunrise, watch the sea and relax admiring nature.

I also visited Greek METEORA

I love Greece as the same as Bulgaria, because our culture and traditions the similar a little.

I visit this amazing place 3 years ago.It is incredible place ! the stairs in the rocks are steep and there are many steps. But you fly up on it like on wings, very easily.Like you’re going to visit God.No wonder this Holy place is visited by many pilgrims from different countries.Of the 20 monasteries on the rocks-6 operating.

I advice you to visit this place somewhere @BorrisS

Hi @helga19 ,

I also collect magnets and key chains. I did not buy a black one but I bought several olive soaps. They had a nice packaging as well.

Do you have a sunrise photo? Here is mine along with one of the sunlit black sand at Kamari Beach.

@helga19 , you had such an amazing trip. Santorini is definitely on my Travel Bucket List. Years ago I visited Athens and Hydra.

I would suggest if you have not already include your Local Guides Reviews you listed on Google Maps in this post to help your fellow Local Guides reference all these beautiful places in Santorini.

Also this will make a great List for Google Maps for not only us here in the Connect community to follow, but you will also be helping other people who may be interested in visiting Santorini too. Added bonus for creating this List you can include it as part of your Connect Live 2019 application. = )

Cheers,
