My trip part III - Journey through the Death Valley.

Caption:- Even a wilderness can have such a beautiful view. That was unbelievable.

ये दिल दीवाना दीवाना है ये दिल. दीवाने ने मुझको भी कर डाला दीवाना.
By driving through the dirt tracks while singing the words as in the title above, King Khan has celebrated the death valley in a Bollywood film “Pardes.”
However, not everyone can do so. That will void the car insurance!

After seeing the song sequence, we had a lot of excitement to visit the spectacle.

Caption:-Straight road for miles together. There was rarely any vehicle in sight.

To go there, we traversed the route via Bad-water basin.
Many travellers have described that as a scenic route & that wasn’t incorrect.

Nevertheless, there weren’t any vehicles visible for miles.
Suddenly, we observed a congregation of cars near a shallow lagoon.
That was Badwater Lake. A spot eighty meters below the sea level!
But, without spending time there, we moved on to Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes.
The place was unbelievably spectacular.

Towering mountains all around and then within the basin there were innumerable hills of submissive sand.

Caption:-The dunes at Mesquite Flat offer unlimited fun.

After enjoying a walk, we started looking at our hotel booking.
There was no clarity of address.
Next, moving to-and-fro approximately for one hour, we could reveal the precise place.
Not finding the exact address lingered a grim experience in the desert!

But then the place was marvellous. That was an oasis in the wilderness. Over here are some photos of the spot.

Caption:- Why call this place as death valley? Life can flourish here too.

Caption:- Such an excellent resort in the Death Valley? Couldn’t imagine!

Next day, we planned to reach Money Bay through a mountain pass in the West.
A drizzle was there, and the ambience was charming.
After driving westwards for an hour, we saw one check-post.
The police signalled to steer the vehicle on the side.
What’s the trouble? We didn’t flout any rules.
But the person questioned, “Where are you going? Do you have a snow chain to traverse the mountains? If not, follow the route via LA.”

That was learning.
When there is massive snowfall, a chain is a must to drive through!

Obligating the instruction, we underwent a lengthy detour totalling six more hours to the travel time.

Caption:- The detour presented a chance to see many more such beautiful sightings.

Caption:- Whether you have a snow chain or not, be ready for driving through the snow, occasionally.

As expected, there was tremendous traffic on US 101.
We used many bypasses and detours. Utilized the HOV sections wherever available. However, all these tricks could cut down only some twenty to thirty minutes.

At long last, we reached the hotel at midnight.
Travelling for sixteen hours. That was a harrowing experience.

But then, reading a hilarious board in the hotel room relieved all the suffering.
(To be continued)

Nice post @C_T Your photos are great, the one that I liked the most is the one with the dunes.

You must have a good playlist for traveling 16 hours!

And the photo of the hotel card, it really made me laugh, I have a friend that takes whatever he can from the hotel rooms, I will show him this photo :joy:

That is a nice joke & a pathetic truth.

I too know a person, who looks slightly maniac…

But, he picks all cheap items, like consumables… but he is fond of showing it other…

Good post, @C_T … with expressive photos… thanks.

Nice comment @LaloPadilla

Thanks for the compliments @TravellerG

The tendency to amass even cheap items from hotel rooms is equally wrong.

Later on, that may grow into picking up anything.

would you like to see another road from Pakistan where I travelled on my bike @C_T

Hello @C_T

Thank you for sharing some out-of-the-world looking pictures of a place with a spooky name.

Is there a reason behind calling it Death valley?

In the second picture there are plenty of clouds in the sky, does it also rain out there?

I think that could also the reason for the little green shrubs growing around.

Overall it seems to be a very exciting experience even when in a logistically advanced country like the US which tells us that we must be prepared for the unexpected.

The valley receives 60 mm rain on average in a full year @TusharSuradkar
The shrubs survive on dew drops.

In the nineteenth century, when the mode of travel was bullock carts or horses, crossing the valley used to take around a month. Surviving that long in this hot desert was extremely difficult & hence the region got that name, possibly.

But the valley offers many breath taking scenes & is worth visiting

Photos are really excellent. By seeing this valley, I reminded the movie “The Hills have eye (2006)”. Its thriller movie. They have some similar scenes as in your pictures. Very nice post sir. In this post I see two types of photos one is like desert and one is like greenery. Last photo is hilarious.

Thanks for the response @Rohan10

Hills have eyes has a location from Morocco deserts. However, Shahrukh Khan’s Pardes depicts a scene from the Death Valley where the song sequence “DIL…DIWANA” was filmed.

Yes @C_T sir but just last week i saw the Hill have eyes movie so it reminded me.

Beautiful piece of writing and well captured … thank you for sharing.
