"My Shopping and foodie adventure in Jalandhar Market"

I love my trip to the Jalandhar Market in Punjab, India. But, I would say, it is not for those who have a faint stomach in eating street food because the vendors literally feed you with their bare hands. My favorite Indian food is “Pani puri, phoolki, puchka or golgappa”… I love the crispy “puri” filled with stuff like chic peas, potatoes, onions and that tangy-minty refreshing taste of the “pani” (water)… You will find everything in this Market, from electronics to jewelry, footwear and clothing and you will get a lot with your money if you know how to bargain good. There is always another store cheaper. You can easily spend whole day going around and you’d still not get enough. There is so much more than what you can see from the outside. If you venture more in smaller alleys, there are hundreds more of shops and eateries in the inner part of the market. If you are around this area… it is a good shopping adventure.

Hi @user_not_found

Was this your first visit to India? I have also dreamed of going there and hopefully some day I can. I want to experience the different world and culture.

Did you prepare before your trip? What was your most favorite thing about India and Punjab? Do you have any helpful tips and advice for those who are planning to go there for the first time?

Thanks for sharing!

@DanniS Yes… It was my first time in India. I stayed in a friend’s house so I had the best experience. Commuting in India is I think would be a bit of a challenge unless you are that adventurous. Punjab is a long way from new Delhi Airport, even longer if you commute. If you are travelling without a local host, better plan it well, have Indian Rupees ready, pre-book your hotels. Better go for known hotels or bigger hotels. If you go on a hot season, have a face-mask,sunglasses and scarf ready coz it can get really dusty and their cold season is really cold too. Food is good but just be ready with stomach ache medicine just in case. Wearing long sleeves and long pants would be favourable because human traffic is much more than anywhere else. Travel light… you can buy anything you need there from anywhere. Amritsar and Chandighar are nice places to stay.
