Hi Everyone,
I am Sithara from Sri Lanka. Level 5 local guide. Google Local guide has become fashion of my life. As a student who learning tourism, I am passionate about travelling. On that situation, Google map was more helpful for me. I got directions, details about accommodation, restaurant and many more things via google map. During those days I did not know about local guide program.
Anyway, I got to know about this program from @AnuradhaP sir in a workshop which is conducted by my university. He is the person who encourage me for the local guide. So many more thanks for you sir. In the first few days I did this just as a game. Since marks were being getting, it was done as a game with my friends. After few days became as my fashion.
I love to add photos, video clips, reviews and also writing post wherever I am travelling. It’s really good way to share our experience with the world. Most of the times I love to add beautiful places and attractions in our country. Honestly its feel me amazing. When I get notifications like “your photos, reviews helped this number of people” I feel like “I’m doing something for the world”.
Not only that, adding missing places, answering questions, rating and reviewing also more helpful for the community. If your simple text can change quality of someone’s lifestyle? What will? Google reviews are that kind of thing. There is a lot of influence from Google reviews on local businesses. So, I never forget to rate on google if I had a good experience with a product.
Making new friends is another benefit I got from local guide. I was able to host for a meet up in my University. It’s another memorable day in my local guide diary.
So local guide helps me to make myself proud. If someone ask me “why you are being a local guide? What I have to ask is “Why I am not being a local guide.?
Usually a community is a group of people which having certain attitudes and interest in common. But the local guide community is a group of people which having certain attitudes and interest in sustainably.
Let’s practice it. Happy guiding!
