My Lagos Experience – Why I like adding places to Google map

My name is Ogaga James Ejabefio, Lagos is my city and I am a Local guide, I like relying on my google map for directions and also to get information about different places and the traffic situation at every given time.

On a daily basis especially working days in the city of Lagos, there seem to be a natural swiftness to all activities happening in different areas – except at weekends when people tend to relax at home, go out to catch fun and attend parties commonly referred to as “owambe” The renowned taxis, public buses (danfo), tricycles (marwa/keke napep) and Motocycles (Okada) which are the main means of transportation in the city, helps to show the level swiftness of people and activities in the city of Lagos.

My experience in Lagos so far has been more like an enjoyable and pleasurable journey. My Lagos experience is however determined by some of these factors, including Location, income, social wellbeing, people, and my personal insights about life. Basically my income and location has greatly influenced all the other factors.

I spend most of my time at work and my leisure time at the nearest shopping mall across town to do shopping, see a movie and relax. My Lagos experience will not be complete without mentioning my visit at weekends to the beach. Elegushi, Oniru, Eleko, are some of the popular beaches in Lagos.

At year end, staying in Lagos is imperfect without attending one or two concert. Live performances by famous artists always take place at popular locations on the island and mainland.

The city of Lagos is very large and is overpopulated. There are lots of activities and movements here and there and lots of people use the map on day to day basis to get directions of places.

For me I do a lot of movement from my house to work, school, to conferences, to business meetings, to leisure activities. I place great priority on the map by relying solely on the map’s direction to get to different places. On a typical day if I am low on battery and I don’t get to use my phone to get directions of unfamiliar places, it can be a very frustrating experience especially when surrounded by people who don’t know the directions as well. On a lighter note the Google map is not 100 % efficient in getting directions in Lagos. There are cases where I have been misled by the map on few occasions. I have also heard people complain about the inaccuracy of the map’s direction here in the city of Lagos. These challenges faced by people in getting accurate directions, motivated me to be a problem solver, by contributing my quota to adding missing places in the maps as well as making relevant corrections to wrong locations on the map and so far so good I have been able to add a few places to the map.
