Sri pada which is also known as Adam’s Peak is considered as a most sacred place in Sri Lanka after the Kandy Tooth relic temple. In Sri Lankan history it is mentioned that Lord Buddha has placed his footprint on the top of Sri pada which is called Samanala Kanda (සමනළ කන්ද) in Sinhala. People from all over the world come to worship and see the footprint there.
So this year I have decided that I’m going to climb all the way up to the Sri Pada. I love hiking but I knew this hike will be a big task because it’s 2,243 m (7,359 ft). The season starts from December and ends in April. So I’m with my wife and two more friends choose February to conquer our fears. This would be my second time climbing Sri pada because I have worship on the year 2015 Season as well. But this time we choose a different route.
We left the home around 12 Noon and after 120 km and 5 hrs drive we were able to get to the Start point. We took our lunch in the Car park and then start climbing around 5.30 P.M because the evening is the best time due to the heat in Sri Lanka these days.
It was 7 Km long path but as I told it’s 2,243 meters height. Surrounding of the path is fascinating and breathtaking, the air is great, and you don’t get tired because of the wind blowing across you. Small and big water paths are available among the path and there are food stalls as well. But when you go up you don’t get the food stalls very often, so better you refill your needs when you found a stall.
We have seen numerous Buddhist monuments on the way and took our time to go and see them as well.
Since this is a sacred place first-timers have to follow certain things while climbing. Among us, there was a first-timer so she has followed them.
After 7hours journey around 12.30 A.M, we were on the top of the mountain. We were a bit tired and I don’t know how many steps I have taken to come to the top but it is totally worth it.
I have looked up and saw the most beautiful sky I have ever seen in my life. Full of stars with half of the moon created a nice view. and you can see all the way you have climbed as well. It is prohibited to take pictures on the top so I didn’t take any.
It’s too cold and stayed only about 2 hrs and then start climbing down. It took only 3 hrs to get down. It was a great journey and anyone who thinks about going there don’t hesitate just do It. Fear or tiredness is just an illusion on your mind. No hurry take your time and climb.
Hope this would be helpful to anyone who wishes to go there.
