Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the borders and airports are closed. Many of the ‘imported goods’ cannot come into Nigeria, because of this, many of us have to come up with innovative discoveries that will help to mitigate the suffering caused by this ‘lockdown’.
MY INNOVATIVE DISCOVERY - HOMEMADE SCRUB FOR GLOWING SKIN
Because, I am so particular about the food I eat, I cook a special food for my skin too. I call it the ‘skin food’.

Almost every week on Connect, the picture of a plant is shared here. Some Local Guides even share pictures of Plants ‘Under water’. ? Some weeks, pictures of fruits and spices are shared.
In this post, I am going to share with you some of the fruits, nuts, plants and shrubs native to us here in Nigeria and what I do with them;
- A - is the African Shea Butter
- B - is a seed popularly called ‘licky licky’ in Nigeria, as black as it is on the outside, it’s orange inside
- C- The Raw Ghanaian Black soap, made from the ashes of some plants
- D - is an indigenous plant, cooked and taken as a blood tonic
- E - ‘Ghana leaves’
- F- Kolanut
- G -Turmeric Powder
- H- is a random growing plant whose shrub is also used in cleaning the tongue
- I- Dates
- J- The seed of the Avocado
- K- The seeds from the first tree in the GIF
METHODS OF PREPARATION
- Rinse
- Put in a clean pot
- Add in the shrubs/plants/ seeds/roots
- Add in water to fill the pot halfway
- Add in Baking soda, Olive oil and castor oil
- I cook for about 105 minutes (One hour, forty five minutes)
- Pound
- Add in some Egg Yolk
- Add in some Honey
- Mix and leave to cool
It tastes very sweet. I use it as ‘skin food’. I apply to my face and it’s one of the best home-made Exfoliating Scrub I have come to know, it works for me more than any ‘Off-the-counter’ Scrub!
I have discovered that it has;
- Anti-oxidant properties
- exfoliating properties
- Keeps the skin hydrated, soft, properly moisturized and results in glowing skin
Do you make ‘scrubs’ like this at home?
What plants are indigenous to your community and What do you make with them?
Do you have some recipes to share?
What OTHER innovations are you coming up with during this period of ‘lockdown’?

Wow excellent. My grandma used to say few things & gave few tips to skin glowing, they are:-
-
Don’t see the mirror, every day it take away glow of your skin, don’t see mirror I get ready without seeing mirror only if going out , when I ready before leaving I just peep in mirror that to only if I am going for party. Some times other wise I don’t see.
-
I don’t apply any make up nly lipstick because make up spoil your skin. Only if family wedding is there then only that to my self with little foundation.
-
For cleansing face use raw milk Take a bowl with 7-8 tsp of milk without boiling put cotton ball in it squeeze little clean your face & neck, hands…
-
Fruit Papaya skin & Tamotato skin ,lemon if you apply on face neck hands gives glow on skin & lemon if you used once in a week it will work as bleach used in skin.
-
Curd, Tumeric powder, Besan flour mix apply on face.
-
Orange fruit can also be used for cleaning skin it also give glow . Even it’s skin u can dry in sun & grind in mixer can be used as face pack.
-
Black vinger & curd & tumeric powder can be used for cleasing skin in this if u want add besan flour or Multani Mitti ( Fullers)
Apple & honey grind in mixer use as scrub.
-
Banana ripe one some times it becomes tasteless mash it add honey, 2 ts p milk also apply.
-
Sieve wheat flour you will get thick one or rice powder mix milk or curd gives glow to skin.
Use natural products it will keep you young, skin shines.

My Didi, I have to read your message two times! I am glad I have other people from around the world that have tried these natural recipes!
I spent close to 1 week and more thinking if I should post or not; before I receive message like. “Unfortunately, this your topic does not match any of the Connect topics and has been moved to Archives”

I want to ask; “do you use these immediately after preparing” and discard the rest. or do you prepare the one you will use for a number of days?" if Yes, how do you preserve it?
I preserve mine using the “Apple Cider Vinegar”.

Hey sissy! @Ewaade_3A
Hearing Beauty tips from you, definitely helpful but i dont think most of these ingredients are available here. We have some of Indian tips n tricks shared by our grandmaa @RosyKohli
My favourite plant for skin food is Aloe Vera to get a clear and glowing skin. One more easy trick is with tomatoes he juice of tomatoes apply on your face to remove the tan.

I really love this post @Ewaade_3A ! Thanks for sharing here
But I don’t see the J (I know what it is,but I coundn’t find the image).
I really like to see what people eat in other countries and different types of food/drink/habits.
I don’t have indigenous plants at home, but I posted about Pequi (a brazilian fruit)
and Pastel (a brazilian food).
During the quarentine I’m cooking more, staying more on Connect, praticing spanish and learning french !
Ah! And thanks @RosyKohli for tagging me
Take care !

That was the whole point of sharing.
To make us know that; “each area is endowed”.
I see our people here looking for “peppermint oil” , “teatree oil”, “rosemary”, etc.
If these things are foreign to Nigeria, Nature has created other oils that will be perfect for Nigerians and so with other countries.
We have tomatoes, I have tried them as a “remedy” for tan and it works perfectly!
