I have in mind to put up this post because of my own personal experience on it,so it is 1st hand and directly from the horse’s mouth. Talk about originality on connect,here you go !!!
I have just hosted My first meetup I have sent in the meetup feedback, and the **Recap **is done. So it’s great to be done with it. Although I wish I could replay it all over again because we enjoyed it so much. Here are some personal tips that helped me and perhaps they’ll be of use to some other LGs. Some 3 crucial points:
Make sure you are well motivated yourself to host the meetup. Motivation is a great factor for anything at all aside meetups. When you are motivated it definitely will be easier to motivate others as well. Your enthusiasm and excitement will surely be seen and felt and that goes along way and contributes to a great meetup. If you can’t get the motivation try to get motivated before going ahead with it.
Choose a subject or topic you love yourself. There are many subject on connect choosing the one you love and that excites you help you in the preparation for the meetup. It reduces the burden or stress. As someone once said if you choose a career or job you love,you will not need to work even a day because you love it and will enjoy every day of it.
Have a co-host or even a good moderator. This is a very crucial part on these 3 tips because there may arise unforeseen circumstances and issues on the meetup and the co-host can easily step in to help out. @Austinelewex was my co-host I ran into a technical difficulty and am sure some of us have on meetups so my co-host was able to help out with the slides while I give the talk and that solved the problems. I plan to host more meetups with him. L L.
There are others tips too like testing out the slides and internet connections for presentation, discussing the topic well ahead of the meetup to get more familiar with it. Having a good presenter if necessary. @NkemNwobu did a good job for us,she was my presenter. I just handpicked these ones that seems more pressing than others in my own personal experience. Lastly sit back and enjoy your meetup when finally the day arrives. Make new friends and confirm old ones. It should be more fun and less or no stress. Life is fun enjoy it !!!
My first unofficial Virtual meetup didn’t go as planned. I ran into unexpected difficulties and my internet connection was poor. Thanks to @Mayford who helped me out and put the meet in place until it’s end. I was really glad for what he did, but I was really disappointed for not even speaking on my meetup.
Thank you for tagging me @Austinelewex . It’s interesting you know @SholaIB , my first meetup no one came haha. I had planned a lot for the meetup, although it was a physical meetup. The points you have mentioned are so valid. I took some learnings from there and they are similar to your points. I’ve only had a few co-hosts, but the vast major factor for the successes of some of my meetups are awareness, choosing a key theme people are able to relate with and getting people interested in the same interests as you. You were impressive in your first meetup and it only gets better. Wonderful post!
Wow @Mayford yes I think I have heard you say that on one occasion about your 1st meetup. That’s serious but anyway you keep motivated that’s great. I Always look forward to having you in a meetup because you have a busy schedule. Most meetups you seem to be on the move L L yet you create time to attend.

My first meetup was a physical meetup. It was fun, and so amazing. Pertaining to what @Mayford has said, I chose a nice theme for it, it was about Geo-hike and many love adventure. So there was great turnout that very day. Although I had some help from @user_not_found
Visiting foreign online meet-ups is difficult for me as my spoken language is not very good still. To tell you a truth I could understand not so much . The main was evident from photos and videos.
Hey @OlgaKlimchik we understand that the languages could be a barrier that’s why we have slides and pictures etc that helps. You wrote abit in the char box too . That was very good. You participated well enough thanks for coming was quite happy to see you.
Hi @SholaIB , I really liked your tips for virtual meetings. I am sure that once all these points have been put into practice in the meetings, it means that it has really been very exciting.
Unfortunately, I can’t organize or participate in such meetings because my English is very bad and I won’t even be able to communicate with people.
Hello @mockata2 thank you for your nice comments. Yes I agree with @Austinelewex attending English speaking meetups can help improve your English. @OlgaKlimchik is facing the same problem but she is improving I think. It was very good to see @Izumi at the meetup as well. Am very impressed with you all. We can arrange how to help improve your English is you don’t mind. @Austinelewex has suggested that before.
Otherwise try organising the meetup in your own language.
Congratulations on your successful meetup. For the first time, I participated in a meetup held in a language other than my mother tongue.
Like @OlgaKlimchik , I didn’t understand most of the words. However, I enjoyed it very much because of the friendly atmosphere and cooking videos of the participants.
I hope that the travel restrictions will be lifted and I will meet you someday.
