Today, I took my first trip abroad and chose to explore one of India’s most beautiful cities, Kolkata. There’s no particular reason for this visit other than the joy of exploration.
I arrived in Kolkata by train with three of my friends, and it was our first experience in this city. Stepping out of the train station, we were too weak by hunger as we hadn’t eaten almost all day. We had no idea where to go in this unfamiliar city and hesitated to ask locals, so we checked out Google Maps. After scrolling through the reviews, we decided to eat at Shankar Hotel, which was the most-reviewed restaurant in our nearby location.
Our half-hour of research was not wasted. The food and experience at Shankar Hotel were excellent.
My remote job duties began to pile up. With no planned accommodation and urgent work tasks becoming a pain, finding a place to sit down and connect to the internet became essential.
I searched for “co-working spaces” on Google Maps and was surprised to find a dozen options nearby. After reading reviews and checking out photos of interior facilities, I chose Ideapod, which was just 270 meters away.
Entering Ideapod felt like the exact kind of space I was looking for. A young woman approached and helped me settle in. She took care of all the formalities, even making copies of my documents. I was given a desk with power ports and internet access, and to my surprise, they served me a fantastic cup of coffee, which I think was worth the basic charge.
Within an hour, I finished my work. I had left my friends earlier, and once done, I checked their location via Google Maps and rejoined them. We spent the evening exploring the local markets and then returned to our hotel room, where I am writing this connect.
This unplanned, tech-assisted day was just the start of my travel plan, which spans the next 3-4 days. I aim to post daily, sharing my experiences as I navigate new places using technology without any planned arrangements.
