My favourite food and coffee places for 2022-23 from Tbilisi, Georgia

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I haven’t written about food in Tbilisi here. I decided to update you with some of my top favourite places to order or visit for food. It is getting a bit easier to be a vegetarian in Georgia as more and more interesting places are starting to appear.

First is Comfort kitchen: https://goo.gl/maps/AnyhVuW3PnggEPzSA

It’s a vegan place, you cannot dine in, only take out or order, and they are the reason I decided to write this blog, as I find myself ordering from Comfort kitchen maybe more than 3 times a week.

This seitan wrap above is the one dish I keep ordering from them most often. It has a lot of veggies yummy sauce, it’s moderately spicy and is wrapped in this perfect a bit thick flatbread. They recently managed to reduce its price, which was an important step from them: as you may or may not know after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Georgia has a massive influx of Russians which really affected economy here and the prices of food, rent and in general cost of living has almost doubled, the same reason I cannot anymore order seitan wrap from Vegan Place which I reviewed in my other blog a while ago here as well, still tastes perfect and still recommend it but it costs double since I’ve reviewed it here so don’t order it that much anymore.

Next is place Sorte, it’s my freshest discovery, so fresh that I had to add it on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/7quCqacWyXe5tFHb8

Sorte is a falafel place, it’s barely a dining place, more like a falafel/hummus counter, but it does have a few tables inside, it’s just not the most comfortable place to eat in, but falafel is splendid. People who work there and cook are from Egypt and Lebanon and they do know how to make proper falafel and hummus, which I find rare in this city still. It’s also cheap and you can get generous portions. I got my first falafel in bread (as they ran out of flatbread) but it was super yummy.

Next place is Dimsumin: https://goo.gl/maps/S3CbvbVVtMnEPk5E8

This is practically the only place where you can get a variety of true veg dumplings, whether it is fried or steamed or deep fried. It’s also wallet-friendly, has a great location and is normally not crowded.

Next place is Gunda - this is place that prepares many variety of Georgian traditional dish Khachapuri - combination of cheese and dough with other things: https://goo.gl/maps/i6DJQcJZST9uKM227

It is located on top of the hill near the funicular, a great place to have a break for a bite after touring the city, however, it’s pricey, so have that in mind. The place is small but super cosy and offers great coffee as well.

Next new place is Tao, where I keep coming back with my friend quite often as we both like Asian food: https://goo.gl/maps/MsUbWbPJXncMoz7Q6

Tao has a great variety of dishes, and everything I’ve tried so far tasted amazing, including the fried rice, soups and this noodles with mushrooms. The place is very cozy and almost never crowded with great staff. Oh and they have this wonderful homemade lemonade of berries, that I recommend to try if you’re there.

Finally, I want to talk about three of my fav coffee places at the moment:

  1. Luca Polare chain, it’s old, it’s been around for many years, it’s local, has very tasty coffee, the quality of which has remained unchanged for all these years.

  2. Qooqy bakery: https://goo.gl/maps/LgQiwmHvPNVUxdkUA also a chain, but new which has a great variety of sweets, including sugar free sweets, as well as variety of bread, has reasonable price and ok-ish coffee (I know, but combined with yummy sweets I usually come here for coffee too)

  1. Sheni coffee: https://goo.gl/maps/bAWXxp63p9s1eifF6

It’s a new place on Orbeliani square, a great location, cosy, perfect coffee and some desserts, which is a bit pricey, but I love their coffee.

Hey Mariam,

Some great looking food!
Never been to Georgia but tried the Georgian cuisine many times.
Some of these pastries are hard to beat (I’m starting to dream Khachapuri and Khinkali now…)
I’m surprised these places which are quite central in Tbilisi have very few reviews and photos (isn’t maps as popular?).

Sam

Hi @abermans

Thank you!

Maps is popular, the thing is, all the places I’ve posted are newer, so they have fewer reviews than the average place would get in the centre.

I hope you’ll get to enjoy Khinkali and Khachapuri in Georgia soon!
