One of the things I like about travelling to a new place is the opportunity to taste new foods and try interesting local dishes. This summer, I had a great time exploring the delicious cuisine of the Maldives. You can check out the main dishes I tried in my previous post.
When visiting the Maldives, make sure to stop by the Al Tramonto Bar & Restaurant in Paradise Island Resort and the Huvan Restaurant in Bandos Island Resort for some amazing food. Below are some of the best light lunch dishes I had.
Tuna salad
The Huvan Restaurant offered a fantastic tuna fish salad. It was made with big pieces of maldivian tuna mixed with fresh green salad, boiled egg, onions, and tomatoes. Everything was seasoned with a lemon dressing. The salad went very well with a light Tiger Beer. It was my first time trying this beer and I liked it, because it wasn’t so strong and combined perfectly with the seafood.
Maldivian seafood salad
This specific seafood salad was served with mussels, calamari, and octopus, mixed with radishes, green salad, and onions. I tried it at the same place—Huvan Restaurant. I think those were the best mussels I’ve ever tried! This salad goes well with white wine, but it depends on your taste and preferences.
Asparagus soup
Apart from the salads above, I also had some tasty and comforting soups at Huvan Restaurant. My favorite one was the asparagus soup, which was very creamy and came with croutons on top. The asparagus is not a very popular vegetable in my home country Bulgaria and we don’t use it much in our dishes. But after trying this soup, I started to consider using more asparagus in my own cooking.
Another great choice was the creamy chicken soup which was made with sour cream and chicken bits, with croutons on top. It was absolutely delicious!
Maldivian seafood pizza
I’m a big fan of pizza and burgers and I never miss the chance to try different variations in new places. I tried seafood pizza for the first time at Al Tramonto Bar & Restaurant on Paradise Island. The restaurant was absolutely great! It’s located in the bay where all the boats which come to the island moor. You have a perfect view of the beach from the restaurant balcony and you can watch the grey sharks swim very close to you. (Check out my full review on Google Maps.)
The seafood pizza I had there was covered with colorful peppers and amazingly fresh seafood: shrimp, crab meat, tuna fish, mussels, and octopus. It was crunchy and delicious and definitely a must-try when visiting the Paradise Island Resort. Other great pizza options are the Maldivian tuna fish pizza and margherita.
Apart from enjoying the great food Paradise Island Resort has to offer, I also recommend you to take a walk along the beach. The sand is white, the water is crystal clear, and the atmosphere is really relaxing!
