My Favorite Beach Vacation Spots Are In South Carolina #StateChallenge

This post is part of the #StateChallenge series

I have lived in North Carolina all my life. I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and now currently reside in the Piedmont (center of the state). What I love about living in the Carolinas is that you can drive a few hours and be in the Appalachian or the Blue Ridge Mountains or drive a few hours in the opposite direction and be at either North Carolina OR South Carolina Beaches.

North Carolina has amazing beaches, don’t get me wrong. We have dunes, Outer Banks, lighthouses, and cozy little beach towns over 100s of miles. However, my love for the beach was founded on South Carolina beaches. I love South Carolina beaches because they have so much to offer.

Charleston-Area Beaches

You have Charleston area beaches like Folly Beach, Kiawah Island, Sullivans Island, and Isle of Palms. These areas are all unique and wonderful in their own way. My wife and I have been to Isle of Palms over 5 times and had numerous weekend trips to Charleston. The best part about this area is if you like history and culture you can visit the battery or old forts in Charleston and see the architecture while also taking in shopping at the straw market or high-end shops and eating some of the best Southern cuisine around. Every beach has a different feel…Sullivan’s is quiet and more for families, Isle of Palms is chock full of resorts and tons of rental properties, Folly is a mix of both, and Kiawah is a golfers dream and a honeymoon/romantic destination (My wife and I had our honeymoon at Kiawah).

Myrtle Beach Area

The Myrtle Beach area is a vacation dream spot for lots of reasons, but it mostly comes down to fun and options. Myrtle Beach and the surrounding beaches have 60 miles of beautiful sandy beaches, known nationwide as the ‘Grand Strand’. North Myrtle Beach boasts luxury resorts (my family has vacationed here over 5 times), there are family-focused beaches of Garden City and Surfside, seafood havens like Murrells Inlet, and historical spots in and around Georgetown. On top of all these options, there are huge entertainment destinations like Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing, putt putt/miniature golf options, waterparks, golf courses, entertainment venues, campgrounds, and more. On top of that, U.S. News & World Report recently ranked Myrtle Beach as the #1 fastest-growing city in the U.S. in 2021-2022.

Hilton Head Island/Savannah Area

Hilton Head, South Carolina offers 12 miles of beautiful shoreline, at low-tide, these beaches showcase a wide span of hard-packed sand perfect for biking (on top of that, I’ve never seen an island so well-built for cyclists with the whole island boasting 60 miles of bike paths and 100 miles of protected public pathways), it has been voted #10 in the best golf resorts in the world by Reader’s digest with over 23 championship courses, miles of nature preserves and more. On top of all these reasons, the island is perfect for kids with amazing parks and playgrounds, splash pads, family-friendly restaurants, and shopping centers, and amazing seafood.

This is a beautiful post @JordanSB . Loved reading the post and the pics are awesome. I have never been to the carolinas yet. Wish to come someday. I have been only to California beaches. It’s a about 6 hours drive for me from my place ( Chandler, AZ ) so this is closest beach we can go to. But the S. Carolina beaches are looking very beautiful. Thanks for sharing it here.

Keep Guiding!

I don’t know of the beaches in North or South Carolina mainly because we have so many wonderful beaches here that when I travel overseas I rarely take much interest in beaches. However, I know theAppalachian and the Blue Ridge Mountains very, very well. Well my feet certainly do LOL. You live in a beautiful part of the world @JordanSB and I had to travel far and wide, and taking several flights to get there and see it for myself.

With the benefit of what you have said and the photos you have shown in your post here, perhaps next time I should visit some of these beaches  That said, thank you Jordan for introducing me to the South Carolina beaches.

Have been meaning to eventually make my way to S. Carolina for a proper trip (not just a quick pass through the interstate) and seems like the options are plenty in terms of the beachside options. You had me at great seafood but it’s awesome to know that the options in terms of entertainment and relaxation are seemingly endless! @JordanSB

I’ve never been in the Carolinas but your pics and your enthusiastic words about the beaches makes me put this place in my private list on Maps to visit one day.

Great post @JordanSB

Silvy.

Thanks for the post @JordanSB I will be preparing the questions soon and I hope you can attend the following Saturday meetup, South Carolina, which will be co-hosted by me.
