My Experience About Kerala Local Guides Chaya Virtual Meetup

Kerala, my homeland, it’s a different feeling, we are from “God’s Own Country” and people call us Malayalees / Keralites or Mallu and we love it. You can see a Mallu anywhere in the world, trust me we are that special one you can see anywhere in the world. The expatriates (people working abroad) are the backbone of our state, they fund us for each and every development in our state.

Due to the recent Corona Virus outbreak our country, India is in lockdown for 40 days from 24th March 2020. So Steve (@StephenAbraham) suggested a Chaya Virtual Meetup on the special day of “Vishu”, ie. 14th Apr 2020 at 5pm IST. Yes, you heard it correctly, a Chaya Meetup, where everyone should prepare tea and snacks for them to have it during the meetup.

When we meet, we greeted each other by asking “Aliya Sugamano” or “Aa Para Bro”.

Google Meet was used for conducting the online meetup. We started the meetup at sharp 5pm and more than 40 community members were there for the Chaya Virtual Meetup from Kerala, Saudi, UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland and guests from other countries. Everyone got an opportunity to introduce themselves even though most of us know each other.

It was really an interesting session where some prepared unniappam, porotta, noodles, tea, coffee etc. and had a very nice chit chat session. I prepared “Kattan Kappi” and had it during the chat session. For snacks my plan was to prepare Pazhampori and Beef, prepared beef in the afternoon but didn’t get time to prepare Pazhampori, so I didn’t show any snacks during the meetup, skipped it.

We also had some good discussions related to adding banks, ATMs and missing road etc. The meetup was planned for 90 minutes and we winded it up by 6.40pm ie., after 100 minutes. Everyone was very happy since it helped them to meet new friends as well as old friends during this lockdown.

Thank you everyone for participating in Chaya Virtual Meetup and special thanks to Steve for conducting this meetup and hope we will have more great sessions by other LGs in the near future.

But here amazingly people from many countries having a common teatime. Superb post.
