My banknotes collections

Like in my previous post about collecting coins as a memory from travels, I also love to collect banknotes from countries around the world. There is a local belief that once we get banknotes from any country, our dream of visiting those countries will be true soon! I wonder how true would it be!

I have a variety of notes from different countries which many of them I haven’t been to yet. I have met people from different countries who wouldn’t say no when I asked to exchange their currencies. All of them are still currently used!

  • Canada stands at the top of my list. I love the landscape of Canada and I really want to explore Vancouver and Alberta. When I met friends from Canada on my flight back to Cambodia, I asked them to see the currencies. Yes, I kind love the currencies for the facts they won’t be destroyed by water. They are printed on polymer, which is a type of polypropylene plastic. They can be melted at 160 °C. Similar notes to Canada are those of New Zealand, Australia, Singapore & Vietnam. Other banknotes that I have seen are types of papers.

Guess which ones I want to go next?

  • New Zealand banknote is quite interesting. It is the first time I touched such beautiful banknotes. In 2015, 5$ Banknote of New Zealand become the world’s most beautiful and thin banknote. On that note, there is a portrait of Sir Edmund Hillary, New Zealand mountaineer, explorer, and philanthropist. He became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of to climb to Mount Everest On 29 May 1953 together with Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay. Besides, I had a great memory living in New Zealand for two years. I keep the note in my collection just to remind myself about such good time I was there.

Korean Won and Euro are notes that reminds me of my quarantine for 14 days in Cambodia. There are people from many countries that stayed together in the hotel and we started talking and exchanged each other notes.

@Sophia_Cambodia Thanks for sharing your collection! I love seeing the money from different parts of the world. And as a Canadian, I love my money also! We were able to sanitize it during the pandemic :joy:

That’s important one @Melissa_Langlois hahaha, you can just spray the alcohol on it and without effect, right?

@Sophia_Cambodia Exactly! We can put alcohol on it and it won’t alter it. I don’t think they planned it when they conceived it but very useful

Right @Melissa_Langlois and it won’t stain too, am I correct? I think they are kinda of clever. Once I was walking along the beach at New Zealand, I picked a 5$ note which lied near the water in a normal condition. It is amazing, currencies on normal papers would have been destroyed already!

Wow, you have two pieces from Cambodia too @MAHBUB_HYDER but they are not in used anymore. How did you get those notes?

Yes, my collection are all in current use. I will find ways to exchange them back because some notes worth 10-30$ so I will only keep smaller notes.

Thank you @BudiFXW it is interesting and you made a point. So far, I only keep them in a wallet but the idea of keeping them in an album sounds wonderful. I never came across money album before. I will look at the bookstore for it.
