My 9 favorite Specialty coffee shops in Sydney AU

Hi, I’ve been introduced in to the world of specialty coffee about 2 years ago and what a whirlwind journey it has been.

It all started with a black Batch Brew - Ethiopian by a friend (check him out insta @brewtheory) and man oh man I can’t even look at instant anymore. For a while I only new of one place in Sydney that was specialty coffee and that was Edition Coffee Roaster that was located on George Street (It isnt there anymore due some medical issue that the owner had :frowning: )

From there my friend introduced to the world of specialty coffee, the places he would take and coffees he made me drink (I say made me but i was willing). Then he pulled out the geisha and man oh man did it set the bar higher than ever… So where do we go from here?

This is my list of Specialty coffee store I go to frequently some more than other.

>>>Deano’s List<<<

In no particular order:

Micro by Coffee Alchemy - Man this was the local when i worked close by. Consistently good coffee they always have a few Singles (single origin) on offer.

Cross Eatery - They serve Mecca coffee here you can fault it unless you go around the corner to Mecca.

St Druex Espresso Bar - This place is relatively new, just a short walk down the road from Cross eatery, the guys are friendly and the coffee is good can’t really ask for more.

Skittle Lane - On King Street, hidden inside a building is Skittle lane. I don’t go here often not because the coffee is bad but because the coffee is good and therefore the place is busy. I try to get a sneaky cup now and again when I’m close by.

Mecca - Well what can I say, this place is the OG of specialty coffee in the CBD, this place is the one place I used to go to on a regular basis. Its one of those places that looks after you by making sure you coffee is perfect before they serve it to you. I would say this is one of my favorite places in Sydney.

Industry Beans - This place is also new in the area, it’s a Melbourne institution, been there a few times coffee was delicious,

Espressory - I hereby dub this place “Sydney’s best underground specialty coffee store” because they are underground (below street level). If you’re looking for a place that has coffee beans from different roasters on rotation then this is the place to visit. Peter who owns and runs the place Is knowledgeable and passionate about his coffee.

Normcore - Another amazing coffee shop in Sydney. These guys are local roasters as well, delicious coffee to be had all around. There is always a geisha available whenever you go for a brew. They are opening a second location near Wynyard station not sure where exactly.

The Reformatory Caffeine Lab - Man this place is an experience. Converted from someones garage into an amazing coffee shop. There is always a number of Geisha coffees on offer here that can go anywhere from $8 to $50 a cup for a pour over, but man have a geisha even if it is one of the cheaper geisha. You owe it to yourself.

That has been a few of my Favorites. This list will be ever expanding as I discover more.
