Museum #8 on Delhi Metro Yellow Line - Mirza Galib Museum

New Delhi is home to a mind-boggling 51 museums covering every topic imaginable.

All the museums are within 2 kilometers of any station on the Delhi Metro.

I have published line-wise museum lists on Google Maps as below:

Museums on Delhi Metro Violet Line - Total 18
Museums on Delhi Metro Yellow Line - Total 12
Museums on Delhi Metro Magenta Line - Total 04
Museums on Delhi Metro Blue Line - Total 05
Museums on Delhi Metro Red Line - Total 05
Museums on Delhi Metro Aqua Line - Total 01

The Mirza Galib museum in Chandani Chowk in Delhi is the resident of the renowned and the most recognized Shayar poet of Urdu.

The museum is located in the narrow bylanes of Chandani Chowk opposite the Red Fort and not everyone knows about it. The Google maps link is misleading too especially since many things have changed on the ground.

Since the love and popularity of Shayari style of poetry is fast declining, I asked some senior citizens around in the market for directions at every turn who I thought had more chances of knowing the museum and turned out to be so.

Ultimately I reached the residence of Mirza Galib to find that it was a very ordinary-looking house. Nearby people told that it was encroached by merchants in the market and part of the house was used as a godown and only recently the Archeological Survey of India or the ASI took control and evacuated the encroachers.

The entrance had a narrow passage that opens up in a relatively large courtyard that is surrounded by several rooms that serve as dining, bedrooms, washrooms, and other like storage and study rooms.

Various original articles from the life of Mirza Galib are on display like utensils, his books, shelf, chessboard, and a similar game that is the precursor of Chess called Chaturaji that he was so fond of. There is a special room where under a beautiful arch the statue of Mirza Galib is on display.

For the record, another museum that is housed and is themed over the life of a person is the Bhai Matidas Museum located only a few hundred meters from the Mirza Galib Museum.

Notes:
тАв The museum is very close to the Red Fort that itself houses 4 more museums.
тАв The museum does not have washrooms and a drinking water facility.
тАв Also has several restaurants and cafes just outside to buy some cold-drink, water, or assorted Indian snacks.

Have you been to a museum that was located inside the residence of some person?
What was special about the museum? IтАЩd be interested in knowing your experiences.

Until thenтАж Happy Guiding

Saludos.

I have visited this place multiple times, but I believe the utensils are from the era of Mirza Ghalib rather than belonging to him personally. @TusharSuradkar

Good point @K.K.Sharma Ji
Since this museum is in the residence of Mirza Ghalib himself, there is a good chance to believe that they belong to him :plus: they might also have added a few from that era.

All photos are fabulous. When I visited there, the illumination was poor.
