New Delhi is home to a mind-boggling 51 museums covering every topic imaginable.
All the museums are within 2 kilometers of any station on the Delhi Metro.
I have published line-wise museum lists on Google Maps as below:
Museums on Delhi Metro Violet Line - Total 18
Museums on Delhi Metro Yellow Line - Total 12
Museums on Delhi Metro Magenta Line - Total 04
Museums on Delhi Metro Blue Line - Total 05
Museums on Delhi Metro Red Line - Total 05
Museums on Delhi Metro Aqua Line - Total 01
The Metro Museum is hosted inside the busy Patel Chowk Metro station on the yellow line in Delhi and anyone who has purchased a ticket for the metro ride can view the museum exhibits that are lined up along the wide and 200-meter long corridor leading from the main entrance to the boarding gates. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is also known as DMRC.
The Metro Museum showcases various items of interest related to a metro train system ranging from models of its trains, the cross-section or cut-away model of a tunnel-boring machine along with the description of how it works, full-size mannequins sporting the different uniforms and helmets worn by DMRC’s workers, to name a few. The most impressive is a panel listing interesting facts about the Delhi metro ranging from its deepest station, highest point, the number of escalators, the number of times the doors on the coaches open and close which are a mind-blowing 2.5 Million in a day.
The best part I liked about this small museum is that it is not only a good insight into the Delhi Metro but all exhibits are pertaining to the features unique to its various stations in Delhi. It is just amazing to get all the history and working principles of DMRC here. Also, the metro museum is one of its kind, since it is the only one in an operational setup.
The museum also traces the genesis of the Delhi metro which took 32 years to reach the operational stage over the various phases in which the metro lines were laid and the work carried out to take the Delhi NCR’s Metro network from zero to where it is now. It also has a small souvenir shop or booth with miniature metro coaches, keychains, wallets, caps with the DMRC logo on sale.
The Metro Museum is a cool and unique experience showcasing everything about the Delhi metro, its history, the construction procedure, and the operational metro models. It is worth one time and won’t cost a dime if you are traveling on the Yellow line since you can simply stop by for a moment on transit and continue your journey forward.
Have you been to a museum recently that has unique art on display? I’d like to know about your experiences.
Until then… Happy Guiding ?
