Museum #2 on Delhi Metro Yellow Line - MUSEO CAMERA

New Delhi is home to a mind-boggling 51 museums covering every topic imaginable.

All the museums are within 2 kilometers of any station on the Delhi Metro.

I have published line-wise museum lists on Google Maps as below:

Museums on Delhi Metro Violet Line - Total 18
Museums on Delhi Metro Yellow Line - Total 12
Museums on Delhi Metro Magenta Line - Total 04
Museums on Delhi Metro Blue Line - Total 05
Museums on Delhi Metro Red Line - Total 05
Museums on Delhi Metro Aqua Line - Total 01

The Museo Camera museum is an incredible place that I found by manual browsing since Google Maps does not locate this when searching for museums nearby nor Museums in Gurugram. There is ample parking for 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler, and the museum houses a breathtakingly-huge collection of cameras and related articles. The sheer number of cameras on display is bewildering and the layout is superb. This is an ultra-modern 7-star museum in the heart of the town. There is also an exhibit area spread over two floors above the main museum besides a cafe.

This museum will bring back memories for people of any age or era for they have a very extensive and beautiful collection of cameras, lenses, and photography-related stuff like a flash, film-rolls, and such from 150+ years. I have a huge appreciation for the amount of work they have put in curating the camera collection. It is just simply awe-inspiring.

I spent an amazing peaceful afternoon here learning the history of the camera and the culture behind it. This museum is a must-visit for any photo enthusiast. or even if you are not one like me. This place is unbelievable and has some of the most unique cameras on display.

There’s also a gallery which displays works of the collaborators.

The entry fees is INR 200 which is worthwhile as they also have to maintain this place.

Hundreds of cameras from the ancient pin-holes to the latest digital ones are on display here.

They are open to accepting your old cameras too.

The history of photography is very well documented and the layout of the museum is excellent.

As a bonus, there’s a fabulous cafe to relax with an extensive menu.

So much to see and learn about the history of photography. The whole journey of cameras and photography is on display here.

The catalog is huge is very well listed. The museum is divided into 3 floors with a gift shop with pins and mugs on offer.

Everything from spy cameras to huge ones to the ones used in the Hiroshima Nagasaki bombings is on display.

Museo Camera is a modern museum to showcase the art, science, and history of photography. A space that has on display antique cameras from over 100 countries, photographic equipment down the ages, historical archives, the works of legends as well as cutting edge contemporary lens-based art.

It is also a center where professionals and amateurs have the rare opportunity to learn and experience the magic of photography, and through it, to explore the arts, ideas, and issues of our time.

There are even a few bioscopes on display though they are out of reach for the visitors.

I liked the pin-hole viewer with an illuminated film at the other end and an adjustable lens to view through

Here’s a darkroom on display with all the equipment which was otherwise out-of-bounds for the common people who visited photo studios in the olden days.

Another blast-from-the-past is this retro-style photo opportunity when the scooter was a luxury and people lined up to take a photo riding it.
You can re-live those childhood moments here.

At the entrance is a special trough where one can clean their feet.

The place is accessible for the differently-abled and there are ramps everywhere with leveled-flooring at the entrance and throughout the place including the cafe.

51 museums, no way! Are Indian’s museum “mad” @TusharSuradkar ? From your photos I can see that one could spend hours in the Camera museum! By the way, you said that the entry fee is 200, but didn’t say 200 what?

That is correct @AdamGT there are people out here in India who have dedicated their entire life-time collecting artifacts from every corner of the country and setting up museums and there is no dearth of enthusiasts like me and also researchers who throng to these places in millions every year.

The camera museum is a personal collection of its founder Mr. Aditya Arya

The previous museum in Delhi that I wrote about is the lifetime collection of Mr. KC Aryan

Good catch, the currency was left out in the main article but is later mentioned in the Quick Facts - its INR 200  i.e. Indian Rupee.

The camera museum is huge and the number of photos I have shared is just 10% of those I clicked which in turn could be only 10% of what is on display.

Hi @mohanghyar

Thanks for your comments buddy.

This is a very high-quality place to visit.

Hey @TusharSuradkar

I was literally going on a virtual tour of Museo Camera through your post    The way you have mentioned facts and details of camera alongwith the classic captures makes this post worth reading. I loved the ambience of the museum by the photos and it’s a treasure for every shutterbug indeed :star_struck::star_struck::star_struck::star_struck: Thanks a ton for this post
