New Delhi is home to a mind-boggling 51 museums covering every topic imaginable.

All the museums are within 2 kilometers of any station on the Delhi Metro.

I have published line-wise museum lists on Google Maps as below:

Museums on Delhi Metro Violet Line - Total 18
Museums on Delhi Metro Yellow Line - Total 12
Museums on Delhi Metro Magenta Line - Total 04
Museums on Delhi Metro Blue Line - Total 05
Museums on Delhi Metro Red Line - Total 05
Museums on Delhi Metro Aqua Line - Total 01

The Drishyakala Museum is located inside the Red Fort housed inside buildings constructed by the British before 1947 as administrative buildings but were lying unused and unoccupied.

The museum building is in Gothic architecture appear huge from outside and spacious inside, hence ideal for housing museums. The Drishyakala museum is a collection of rare original art from renowned Indian artists like Raja Ravi Verma, Rabindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, and Gaganendranath Tagore to name a few.

The ticket to the museum is included in the ticket for the entry to the Red Fort but needs to be purchased extra without which access is denied even if you are inside the Red Fort.

Each artist has separate halls dedicated to exhibiting of his work.

There is also a separate hall to exhibit the belonging of these artists like the letters exchanged, diaries, and rare photos that are now a century old.

Outside the museum, the approach road is a grand avenue with huge trees standing on both side giving you an ovation and welcoming as you walk the long path from the main entrance to this museum which is located a bit far off but within the Red Fort campus.

For the record, another museum that is housed and is themed over the life of a person is the Bhai Matidas Museum located only a few hundred meters from the Mirza Galib Museum.

Have you been to a museum that was located inside a fort?
What was special about the museum? I’d be interested in knowing your experiences.

Until then… Happy Guiding

Thank you @abhishekpatk

What I mean with the question is - have you been to any other museum that was also inside a fort

For example, there is a huge fort in Bikaner in Rajasthan where there is also a museum inside.

@TusharSuradkar Thanks for sharing information about this place. Do you know the reason for unoccupied administrative office which was built by British? As per my knowledge the construction by British was superb as compared to nowadays. Still that building is used. Its curiosity for me.

Nice question @Rohan10

My guess is the buildings from the British era were inside the Red Fort which is a national monument and to continue using them for a regular purpose like a government office, post office or court, etc. would involve allowing a large number of people from the public to enter the important Red Fort complex that has many precious buildings of huge historic importance. It was only recently that they decided to host a museum inside these buildings and I think there would be no other better use for those buildings.

What would be your suggestion?
