Murals tells a story of Lagos-Nigeria.

Here is another nice post about Nigeria my country. Although you’ll read post from Ghana,Liberia Ivory Coast etc on my profile, am a Nigerian Local guide. This time I was passing through the airport in Lagos Nigeria and came across this beautiful mural at the airport. I decided that I will share it with connect as usual. The beauty aside it tells a complete and nice story of Lagos. A photo is worth a thousand words we hear. There are lots of things in that photo that tells a good and historical story of the people and city of Lagos-Nigeria.

  • Eyo The image with the red hat is actually a masquerade called Eyo . It is a traditional/local masquerade that has it’s seasonal celebrations only in Lagos the west of Nigerian. As seen in the photo,it is cladded in a white covering gown. It has a hato which could be red or some other colours. It always has a long thorny or spiky staff in it’s hand. It has a long traditional history attached which should be a topic for another post.o

Of course we see the roof of the national art theatre in Lagos. There is the white ladder like structure which is lekki toll gate as well in the background. Those are iconic things in Lagos as well. I will not say too much about them.

  • Danfo : This yellow bus with black lines is called Danfo. Aside commercial motorbikes called Okada. The Danfo is commonest easiest and cheapest form of transportation in the city of Lagos. It is a commercial means of transportation private owned. It covers most part of the 22 million populated city. While in this bus, comfort is not a watchword. You might have to watch yourself as well security wise. It’s often not too clean and spacious. Anyway that’s part of the life and ways in Lagos. For the masses,it saves them a few nairas extra, amidst the expensive life in the city of Lagos.

In the mural above we have the horses which on the Nigerian coat of arm signifies strength. That is not a Lagos thing. We also have the three standing image of men. That is a historical image in Nigerian. The image of these 3 men signifies the various ethnic tribes that make up Lagos as a geographical zone. We have the lagoon and the sea which surrounds Lagos.

B R T (Bus rapid transport)This is a current means of transportation in Lagos city. When I say current that means its only about 20 years ago this was introduced into the transportation system in Lagos. It’s government owned. Its relatively cheap. It’s fairly comfortable. Its also has accessibility features. A ramp for wheelchair to get in,a place for the handicapped to sit etc. It’s fairly decent and organised. Has particular designated stations and stop over. This has become part of Laogs in the last while. The only one thing that’s not here that was and is still part of Lagos is Molue. Its a means of transportation not too comfortable not too safe not neat but it’s part of life in Lagos anyway.

If you ever visit Lagos, these are the things you’ll experience and see. Make sure to try them all out. It’s more interesting than the words used in this post. Lagos is worth a visit and travel. It’s a unique place in all the world. Hope you’ll like to pay a visit here. A welcome awaits you…

Happy guiding

The murals are so captivating @SholaIB I could not take my eye off for a long time noting the fine details.

Normally murals like these elsewhere are mostly abstract arts, many time they also look weird, making no sense whatsoever.

But the ones that you have shared tell a story - this is so enchantingly new.

Wonderful post and nicely explained - as usual :+1:

Hello @TusharSuradkar

Thank you Thank you you gave the first lovely comment on this post.

I had the same reaction on passing through this airport. It captivated my attention immediately. The picture was very clear and the story so real. I was born and brought up in this city of Lagos so I quickly recognised the mural.

I have been seeing lots of posts on mural these days on connect. Especially from Indian local guides. I was so happy to be able to share this with you all. I’m glad you like it. It’s a city worth visiting if you get the chance. You are highly welcome…

Happy guiding

Dear @SholaIB :handshake: Right now Bharat’s most of the city’s municipality takes initiative to make murals in govt Wall & bridge pillar.there are many benefits from this initiative, the wall and bridge pillars look beautiful and the wall is also maintained and a good message is sent to the citizen :sparkles:

Interesting murals @SholaIB especially the one with the yellow bus, it reminds me of one that a few of us “borrowed” at Connect Live and took down to the San Francisco waterfront to get burgers.

Saludos Farid

Hello @FaridTDF

   . It’s no small city I tell you. I wish we could have a mini connect live in Nigerian sometime. There are loads of very interesting things and places to see. The city life itself is a sight. Thank you for the nice comments.

@PaulPavlinovich yea. It’s a volkswagen bus. Very interesting you had used the same brand somewhere else abroad. Its the most common and cheapest means of transportation. Thank you for commenting.

@ShailendraOjha nice to read your comment.

Love the murals you shared @SholaIB my friend! I enjoyed learning also about the different modes of transport such as the BRT and Danfo. That is interesting to know as well how in the Danfo you must watch yourself security-wise. I wonder if the BRT bus is more secure and safe. :sparkling_heart:

That is the bus alright @FaridTDF
