“Fatayer is a type of Middle Eastern pastry that is typically filled with spinach and feta cheese, Zaatar but can also be filled with meats or other vegetables. The dough is made from flour, yeast, and water, and the pastries are often brushed with olive oil before baking. They can be served as a snack or as part of a larger meal and are often found in Middle Eastern bakeries and restaurants.”

This appetizing snack has a long history. It is believed to have originated in the Levant region, which includes modern-day Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Jordan. The dish has been enjoyed by people in the region for centuries and is a popular food in many Middle Eastern households.

The name “fatayer” comes from the Arabic word “futawr” which means “to fold”, referring to the folding of the pastry to encase the filling. Fatayer is often served as a part of a mezze, a selection of small dishes served before the main course, as well as a common street food. Fatayer is also popular in other Middle Eastern countries, and variations of the dish can be found in Egypt, Turkey, and Iran.
