Mouth Watering Desserts from the Arab Region

The Arab region is quite well-known for serving some of the best desserts. The sweet Arabic delicacies are delicious and is a must try for someone who is visiting the Arab countries. The traditional Arabic desserts can easily be obtained at local sweet shops, bakeries and in the restaurants serving the Lunch and Dinner Buffet around the cities in the Arab world. It is common to see the usage of sweet creams and different types of nuts such as almonds, pistachios, walnuts, peanuts, and pine nuts in these desserts. The Arab people prefer eating more variety of sweets, especially during the holy month of Ramadan when compare to the rest of the year.

Kunafa, Baklava, Muhallebi, Balah el Sham, Lugaimat, Umm Ali, and Basbousa are some of the most popular desserts from the Arabian cuisine. The Arabian dessert has sweetness in every bite and most of them are garnished with the nuts and are spread out on a shining dish or tray.

The following are some of the Arabian desserts which I like the most:

Basbousa : This dessert is made of Semolina and is square in shape. Sugary syrup with coconut flavor and saffron is used in its preparation. This restaurant in my city prepares some of the best Babousa I have ever tasted.

Baklava: This mouth watering dessert is quite famous even in many foreign countries. This are made of layers of filo pastry leaves drizzled with honey and crushed dry fruits. The thing which I like the most about Baklava is the crunchiness and sweetness which it provides in every bite. This supermarket in my city has a separate dessert section and prepare the most delicious Baklava varieties.

Kunafa: This is made of thin threads of pastry, usually made of semolina dipped in honey, filled with cream cheese and baked in the oven or cooked on a stove. Kunafa is served with the sugar syrup and a filling of nuts or sweetened cheese will be added to it. This chain of local restaurants in Saudi Arabia is quite popular for preparing the delicious Kunafa baked in oven.

Muhallebi: This is a traditional dessert which is quite similar to the milk pudding. It is prepared by using the simple ingredients such as rice, sugar, flour and milk. The origin of this desserts goes back to the 7th Century. This restaurant is popular for Muhallebi in my city.

Hello @fasi6083 ,

Thank you for sharing these photos with us, everything looks very delicious! which one from these, is your favorite dessert?

Personally, I find that there is a huge similarity between these Arab desserts and the Turkish ones, especially when it comes to the bavlaka, the balah ash-sham and the kunefeh.

As a person who grew up in Morocco, which is considered to be a part of Arab world as well, these desserts are almost unknown! There, the desserts are completely different and yet very tasty as well.

In Bulgaria, where I currently live, most of these Arab sweets are very popular. Here is a photo of a baklava that I bought a few day ago.

Thanks for the comment @BorrisS I like Kunafa and Baklava the most from the Arabian Desserts. In my opinion, majority of the desserts in the Arab region were introduced from the Ottomon empire. Here is a photograph of Baklava which I took during my recent visit to a sweet shop.
