Have you ever heard of Fidel, Bruges famous dog? There was a time Fidel would always be there, looking out of the window. Unfortunately, he passed in 2016 after living a good life. Last March though, Fidel started to be trending again on Twitter after a girl found out that he wasn’t there anymore.
Shuffling through my pictures, I’ve found one I’ve taken of him during my trip in Belgium in June 2009. Truly, Fidel must have been one of the most photographed dog on earth. Do you have a picture of him? Share it with us.
A beautiful story and of course it’s sad that Fidel passed away @Melissa_Langlois . Your post reminded me of Hachikō, the Japanese Akita dog known for his remarkable loyalty to his owner, a professor at the Tokyo Imperial University, for whom he continued to wait for over nine years following the owner’s passing in 1925. Hachikō would go to meet his owner at the train station every day even after the owner’s passing. Even after his own death in 1935, Hachikō is well known in Japanese culture as an example of loyalty and fidelity.
If you’re a dog lover then I implore you to get the 2009 movie Hachi, starring Richard Gere and watch this incredible true story.
@RobAo I know right? I remember the first time I saw him, the guide told us about Fidel and I was like He’s clearly making that up. But no, he was right
@AdamGT I’ve heard of Hachiko, it’s such a famous dog. I haven’t seen the movie though, I’ll clearly watch it during the weekend. Thanks for the suggestion!
It’s a sad story. I’m sure everybody will miss Fidel. On the other hand, it’s so lucky for you @Melissa_Langlois and the other that has taken the photo of Fidel. It would be a great memory forever
By the way, what place is that where Fidel has stayed before?
