Morning Walk to a Hill in the Backyard

Taking a morning walk gives a good start to the day.

Some take a brisk walk in a public garden or others might just walk on the footpath or sidewalk.

The health benefits of a morning walk are well-known.

In the backyard of my home in Pune are the beautiful Baner Hills.

The hills are mostly fenced since it is also a bio-diversity park where flora, fauna are protected and conserved but there is also easy access to the hills which can be seen in the photo below.

The view from the hills also shows other far-off hills in Pune. There are 7 other such hills in the city.

The smoke that is coming out is from a brick kiln and I also like the nice smell that comes when the bricks are freshly baked.

On top of the hill is a small temple of Chandika Mata.

Also, I am involved with a local group of volunteers called ‘Friends of Trees’ which plant trees on the slopes of the hill which looks barren currently. We climb atop the hill every Sunday and dig trenches and plant trees and water the plants which are already planted.

The other side of the hills surprisingly a plateau large enough for people to lay cricket or football.

You can see the trees planted so far by our group in the far distant area in the photo below.

There are also some rare species of plants like this double-crown flower tree where the ants are busy gathering food.

Where do you normally go for a morning walk or for jogging?

I’d be interested in knowing. Until then… Happy Guiding

Hey @TusharSuradkar ,

Thanks for sharing this place and telling us so much about it. Planting trees is such a good example for everyone in the world.

I am not in the habit of taking morning walks even though they are good for the health. I should start doing that, but let’s see when that will happen.

Hello my friend @TusharSuradkar I have become lazy and left my morning walk. I should start again some of these days hopefully. Nice post and pics

Thanks for your comment @MoniDi

I know it is difficult to develop a habit, with known benefits, due to several constraints.

I have realized that it is even more difficult to sustain it. So I go for a walk any time of the day when I can spare some time and not necessarily on the hills but absolutely anywhere.

In the worst case, I simply walk around my apartment building or walk to-and-fro in the drawing hall of my house, but I must walk to continue enjoying its immense health benefits.

I hope you get a chance to pick up this habit of taking a walk at least once in a day, in the near future. Trust me you will never regret it

Thanks, @SholaIB

Same story with me

I make sure to walk a little any time of the day, not necessarily in the morning, and not necessarily on the hills, but literally anywhere.

Sometimes I walk in the park or simply around my residential apartment.

Hey @TusharSuradkar ,

Thanks for replying so quickly. I agree with you completely. I just wanted to add that walking in the morning is not my thing but I definitely try to do it every day in the late afternoon or after work if the weather is nice. I try not to become lazy despite the situation. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes I did a little walk as well just in my house this morning but its not the same as going out into the streets or mountain or hills etc. It feels better to go out. Its difficult to go for a walk out here in west Africa during the day-the temperature is about 35°C as I write to you.

Haha, @MoniDi Got it…!

So you paid much attention to the word ‘morning’ and I certainly did not see that

I must admit that going for a morning is only a beginner thing and is very difficult to sustain.

I too have not been able to go out for a walk consistently in the morning.

So, yes, walking at any time during the day is the best thing to do.

Hi @SholaIB

I agree, my friend. Walking inside the house is a bit constrained and not a free movement as the outdoors.

It gets quite warm out here in Delhi where the temperature was 41°C :sun_with_face: but then we lucked out having mild showers :sun_behind_rain_cloud: for the past 15 days which brings down the temperature quickly.

But I hope this article serves you as a reminder and an inspiration

It appears that the place has lost a lot of green cover over several years @TusharSuradkar

It’s the other way @C_T

There was no forest cover for several years from what I know since moving into that location.

The green cover seen presently are plantations by volunteer groups.
