Hey,
I’m French…
All is in the title : how to set the correct category? Here in France, “monument” isn’t available, “stelle” (kind of stone) or “plaque” (some rectangular and plane cut peace of stone with a text engraved on) aren’t available too…
I found “memorial estate” but it seems better for a piece of land like a cemetery or a park… Some monuments for the unknown soldier have this category set on Maps in France…
Your recommendations?

I erased this “answer” because a moderator thought it was related to this thread but in fact not at all.

Hi @GeorgesRedOre
Monument category is currently not available on map. But, you can add that place by using “Historical Landmark” on Google maps.
For instant reply, always try to post your queries in the How-tos section, where you can get an instant reply from fellow Local guides and moderators.
Hi @GeorgesRedOre
I have seen several examples where LG has createdsuch new places and incorrect added the category in the name field. That is certainly not the way yo do it.
I aim to add the artists name in the name field if I know who made the art piece.
I often use the Sculpture category song the Historic or Cultural Landnatk category sound more impressive or huge than can be justified in my opinion.

@GeorgesRedOre
Please only post the sane question once.
PS in the main list of categories (the US English list) there is one called Monument maker which is often used incorrectly for individual monuments.

@MortenCopenhagen ,
I didn’t post it twice… Maybe a bug. (this website is very slow… It’s like the old French (and now terminated and vintage) “Minitel”… You type in something then do your chores and a little coffee and back to see the result).
Monument maker is clearly not designed for that…
@NareshDarji @
That’s what I did : didn’t I?
Hey @MortenCopenhagen ,
Thanks for your replies…
The name of the artist of the “monument” isn’t really necessary. The name of the Hero yes : The well known french General Charles de Gaulle, for example, or someone like that… This level…

@GeorgesRedOre
For the general I believe the historic landmark would be good

I am very sorry moderators, but I want to make an official objection to your move :
I post 2 totally différents contributions totally unrelated.
I wanted to ask about the very specific category “monument”
AND
I wanted to find a better category to create a location for something that is something else
@MortenCopenhagen
Would be, but in fact not : it’s often totally unrelated with the exact place where it is…
On a battle location yes, on the location where he was born or where he died yes… Meybe where he has the habit to take his dinner…
But in a random place “for the record” like “see! We made something about him”… Not so historical…

For your second question.
A lot of places on Google Maps have categories that can not be selected by Local Guides. Train station, bus stop, airport, lake, and monument are on the so-called base-layer that only Google staff can edit.
You can try reaching out to Maps support. My success rate on this is very low.
Visit the Maps support forum.
Hit the Community tap at the top and make a post. You need to attach or link to official documentation supporting the change / addition you are proposing. Copyright-free governmental maps are probably the best proof you can attach.
