What if Google Maps contributors could monetize their reviews and photos? Since we spend our valuable time reviewing and uploading content, it would be great to receive compensation. I know we’re helping people around the world, and I’m happy about that!
That would be great. But does people spend that much time? It should only go to people who spend that much time.
Hello @VipinRajMG , welcome to Local Guides Connect forum!
We, the local guides, are volunteers. Which means we contribute to Google maps at our own will. There is no monetary value for our contribution and I think there shouldn’t be. Because first and foremost Google Maps itself is free to use for public. We are contributing to maps and improving it while using it for free. So it’s a win-win situation for both Google and the users.
Totally agree with Sadman. We, the Local Guides, are indeed volunteers — and that’s the beauty of it. But I also believe that as the program grows, there may organically be perks or opportunities that come along, especially for higher levels like Local Guide Level 8 or 9 — maybe things like “50% off on your order”, exclusive access, or even early feature trials. Who knows — if you dig deep enough, you might already find some hidden gems or benefits in the ecosystem. Let’s keep contributing and growing
Thanks, I agree that being a Local Guide is a voluntary contribution, and I truly enjoy helping people through my reviews and photos. Google Maps being free is indeed a great benefit for everyone. At the same time, our contributions add significant value to the platform. It’s great to be part of a community that enhances the experience for users worldwide!
Well said! Being a Local Guide is rewarding in itself, but it would be great to see more perks or exclusive opportunities for higher-level contributors. Small incentives like discounts or early feature access could further motivate contributors while keeping the spirit of volunteering intact. Let’s keep contributing and see what the future holds!
Google Maps no es gratuito, Google Maps necesita de tener una cuenta vinculante con servicios de Google bajo unas bases obligatorias;
I agree! The badge was a nice recognition and it’s always rewarding when people recognize our contributions and find them helpful. That feeling itself is a great motivator to keep sharing!
I’d be happy if they’d give me a nice badge I can show on my profile or something fun, not necessarily money.
Yes,It’s like helping our global citizens in accomplishing their job.
Yes, it is volunteer work, but it is work that uses both time and resources! Recognition doesn’t have to be money directly; it could simply be a deal on extra Google storage. Keeping a bunch of photos & videos for editing and contributions uses up storage space.
Extra storage would be a motivator and enabling for more and better contributions. That would benefit all involved (from contributors, to readers, to Google).
What do you all think about this?
That’s a great suggestion!
