MOMO

MOMO

__M__omo is a type of steamed dumpling with some fillings like veg or non veg. Momo has become a traditional delicacy in Nepal,Tibet, as well as Nepalese and Tibetan communities in Bhutan, also in Ladakh, North east India and Dearjeeling regions of India.

It is similar to Chinese Baozi and Mantou. Mongolian Buuz, Japanese Gyoza, Korean Mandu and Turkic Manti, but it is very inspired by cuisine of Indian subcontinent with Indian spices and Herbs. Momo are very popular in Indian subcontinents and can be found in mostly every kind of shops from restaurants to street vendors.

Place of origin: - South Asia

Ingredients:- 1- All-purpose flour, 2- fine chopped cabbage , 3- chopped onion, 3- fresh coriander, 4- garlic, ginger, 5- soybean, 6- ground cumin, 7- ground cinnamon, 8- salt and black paper, 9-Little amount of refined oil for lubricate the pot.

this is not my video but you can try this video to prepare youtube

Direction:- mix well flour and room temperature water in a bowl, knead the dough till it medium firm and flexible, and let rest it for half an hour.

Meanwhile mix all ingredients properly in another bowl.

Then for making wrappers take small amount of dough and make it a small ball, and place it in a flat surface for rolling it approximately 3-4 inches round (diameter) with rolling pin.

Then take that wrapper and place one spoon of filling which we already prepared in another bowl, place in center of wrapper and fold it as you want in your desine.(pinching the corners together) it will like satchel.

Now place Momo like 9-10 piece or (depend capacity of your steamer pot) in steam cook pan fill the steamer pot half with water bring to a boil, set the steamer pan with the Momo on top of the pot and cover with the tight lid. Steam the Momo until 8-9 minutes.

Take dumplings off the steamer and serve immediately.

To serve, arrange the cooked MOMO on serving plate with tomato chutney or chilly chutney.

In India and Nepal you may get 9 to 12 piece in one plate and price is also reasonable as I found it is between &) to 150 Rs/plate price can be change if you order nonveg (chicken, mutton, buff) MOMO.

There are also so many verities of Momo now days like steamed, fried, jhol momo etc…

Hope you like my post and you can try Google to learn more how to cook… thankyou.

Hello @shivpandey ,

Thank you for sharing these photos and information with us, the dumplings look very delicious!

I’ve always considered dumplings as East Asian food, but apparently I was wrong. I guess, it’s maybe because I never came across Indian restaurants in Europe having dumplings in their menu!

Reading about the ingredients, all of the things seem to be available everywhere. I’m saying this because most of the times when I tried to cook something Asian, my biggest problem was to find some specific spices or ingredients.
