Missing the Local Guide achievement mails

Since the start of Covid-19, I did not receive any emails regarding below topics anymore:

  • Monthly overview: X amount of points contributed, streak,…
  • Achievements of review or photo views. I reached 10M views in total 2 months ago, still no mail.

Am I the only one missing this? This was really encouraging me to contribute, and I suppose it was the case with many people.

The only updates I am receiving is my monthly timeline but this is not encouraging me to contribute. (It only makes me feel sad because I get to see how less I did last month :joy: )

Does someone know why they are not sent anymore?

Hello @Stphn . Thank you for reaching out here. Many LGs are not getting there achievement notification since March 2020. I got last mail about it on 10th March 2020. Its may be due to Pandemic situation. But also ensure your email setting here. There should be tick mark on contribution as shown in below screen shot. I hope this may help you.

Your observation is correct @Stphn
That may be because of resource crunch caused by the current pandemic as explained in the Temporary product changes.
Nevertheless, I find the Connect site to be a stronger motivator for continued contributions.

LGs are publicizing their achievements here & getting acclamation from others, and that has become a prime mover now.

Hi @C_T , where did you see the Temporary product changes? I would like to read that.

Still, I’d like the emails more rather than read about other Local Guide’s their achievements to be honest. :wink:

I posted a similar message a while ago and like you was told it’s down to reduced staffing numbers as a result of the current situation, which is entirely understandable.

However what I find a little odd about this is that it implies that an actual human employee (or many of them) is tasked with monitoring all of our activity and then manually sending out bespoke emails to all of us when we trigger a particular milestone. Seems unlikely right?

Surely Google just have a system that does all this automatically and, if this is the case, why would an automated email system be affected by the COVID-19 situation? Other emails come from them just fine so why are these ones in particular affected?

The problem seemed to start when there were issues with photo view counts and other stats not displaying correctly, is there a chance this mechanism simply broke at that time and nobody is around to fix the code?

@turbotapeworm , thank you so much for your reply! And I have to say, we share EXACTLY the same thoughts.

These mails are probably just indeed triggers that get sent based on “IF” formulas and it just seems odd to me as well that after almost half a year, this still is not fixed. (sounds very un-Google to be honest)

As what I have heard from the news, is that most Google employees are just working from home, but are still working.

Perhaps here and there some cuts in the employees in some departments but it seems that the focus on Local Guides is less than before? Could also be a budget problem.

Anyway, interesting material and would be nice to see an answer from a Google moderator on this though. :blush:

Must be the latter, as I have seen comments from other LGs saying they received it too.

Sorry to hear about that. I appreciate all the responses too. I have the same problem for a good while now. As far as I know my settings to receive Emails about my contributions are ok. Some Emails for achievements come through and the most don’t. For instance I got an Email for being a Top local guide for the month of july this morning that’s nice but that’s the 1st of it’s kind I have gotten so far.

Am only hoping that the problem is rectified now for mine and maybe the Emails for the achievements will be coming from now henceforth.
