Midnight Kali Puja Market at Raja Subodh Mallick Road, Jadavpur, Kolkata, West Bengal

Come! Let us visit Raja Subodh Mallick Road, a prominent part of South Kolkata. For Google Location of the temporary Market: Click on the following points. Market Start Point & Market End Point

I started my visit around 11.45 PM - the place is near to my residence and reached there, within 10 minutes by walk. This picture is in fron of Jadavpur Post Office.

Lot of people … checking the idol before purchase. The idols cost from 3500 to 12000. Not only adults, even the children are here to experience the deal.

Many cities, particularly in India, have large, temporary markets (often associated with festivals like Biswakarma Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Saraswati Puja, Durga Puja, Ganesh Puja, Kartick Puja, Kali Puja or Diwali) etc where numerous stalls are set up along the streets or open grounds to sell religious idols and puja related items.

Areas like Jadavpur in South Kolkata and Kumortuli (the potters’ colony, which is permanent but expands significantly during festivals) in North Kolkata and various street-side stalls along major thoroughfares become busy hubs for idol sales. These markets often span one kilometer long distance.

Online Idol purchase is not practiced here at West Bengal. Here people prefer to buy these Idols directly from the artisans, from roadside temporary markets. Over at Jadavpur area, Kolkata, West Bengal the picture is vast. Extensive street markets emerge during this Kali Puja selling Godess Kali idols.

Usually every year two days before the Kali Puja festival specific places in Kolkata is flourished with idol shops where residents throng to buy them. There are makeshift shops (open air counters) on the footpaths and specified areas where local administration used to permit sellers to come and sell the idols.

We, the residents of Jadavpur used to buy al the items related to Kali Puja Festival including the idol of godess Kali. Lot of puja festivals are celebrated here .. Not only for local demand, people from far used to come here and purchase their requirement from this temporary market.

Lot of manual rickshaw vans deliver these idols to local residents. Large vehicles also serve the purpose of big idol carriage. Like Saraswati Puja, this market used to continue till morning of the Kali Puja Festival date.
