Sounds like you had a good experience in SF @FaridTDF
You should have got an Uber that first night in SF but that can be difficult for travellers. My Uber App refused to work in the USA which is funny because I installed it last time I was there. Instead I had to use the website which gave vague outcomes. I had to uninstall the Uber App for the website to work properly. Even then I could not rate any of my drivers. At least I could pay them :).
The Google Pay / Samsung Pay / Apple Pay issue is an interesting one. For the most part American register operators don’t seem to know that their devices support tap and go (the contactless NFC that the services use) and insist on having a card and swiping its magnetic stripe. They are stuck in the 1970s. On the rare occasions that they will allow you to tap for NFC it depends both on their payment provider and yours whether it will work or not. I find that in the most modern organisations (Google Store, T-Mobile, Blue Bottle Coffee) that I can tap and go with Google Pay. With others I can tap with my credit card but not with the device. Most of the time I have to swipe which is interesting because the latest generation of Australian cards don’t have a stripe anymore so that is going to be problematic for travellers. I talked to my bank about this before I left home and they issued me a card with a stripe because I’m a traveller.
