Buzz Lightrich here, reporting back—alive!
After my initial update, I’ve survived a week unlike any other—practically “kidnapped” by fellow Local Guides from across the Americas—and I’m still reeling from the whirlwind of emotions we shared.
Thank you, Local Guides, for everything you shared with us over these past few days!!
It’s incredible, all that has unfolded over these six days:
- We journeyed to the very origins of the city—exploring the remains of ancient Tenochtitlan and the colonial-era buildings constructed atop its ruins.
- We took in the vibrant, **colorful murals ** of Diego Rivera,
- Discovered the tranquil charm of Coyoacán, and stepped into the most intimate, private corners of Frida Kahlo’s life at the Casa Azul.
- An incredible experience on the trajineras of Xochimilco, combined with the Dia de Muertos celebration.
- We even took an extraordinary sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the pyramids of Teotihuacán, followed by an exploration of the archaeological site under a scorching sun.
- As night fell, we crossed the city to catch a thrilling match of Mexican Lucha Libre, hosted by @Bere_Marichi, wrapping up the adventure at a traditional taco stand.
- We also enjoyed a crisp, sunny morning in Chapultepec Park, climbing up to the Chapultepec Castle -perched high on a hill, to take in breathtaking, unimaginable views of the city.
All the while, we were busy collecting signatures, stickers, and stamps in our unofficial #ConnectLIVE Mexico City passports.
Of course, a visit to the National Museum of Anthropology was a must; we spent our time moving from room to room, admiring authentic archaeological artifacts brought here—to this museum in the city center—directly from archaeological sites across Mexico.
Another evening, destined to become unforgettable, turned into an early celebration—a “Taco Night” under the lead of Lalo Padilla, which we enjoyed all the more knowing that Google was sponsoring the gathering. It wasn’t without a brief, dramatic moment, though—one that was fortunately resolved after a few minutes. We all love you, @TerryPG ; you are a vital part of our entire community. Take good care of yourself!
The following morning was truly extraordinary: #TeamTacos—and @ErnestoGZamora in particular -managed to get nearly 50 Local Guides up at 6:30 a.m. (following a night of partying!) for a run/jog around Chapultepec Lake. And all of this was just six hours before the official #ConnectLIVE Mexico City activities were set to begin! Can you believe it?
The first day of official activities—which we won’t cover in this post—concluded when the Google staff welcomed us at the hotel entrance with delicious, freshly made churros. What a special touch!
Following a second day of official activities, packed with surprises and insider info, we wrapped up Friday with a karaoke night hosted by @LaloPadilla. It was full of iconic moments that will forever hold a place in the hearts of everyone who attended—right, @RogerOhayashi ? ![]()
The weekend marked the start of the journey home for many Local Guides, but the “invasion” isn’t over yet—plenty of them are still out exploring the city and other Mexican cities like Cancún and Puebla, and will be here in the city for a few more days.
So, stay tuned for a final recap, along with many individual reports from those who attended this incredible event. We’re eagerly looking forward to seeing your posts about your experiences here in Mexico City!
In the meantime, please accept warm regards from all the #TeamTacos members who were invited to the event, as well as from many others (@Rey_Ley @Ariadnecca @Regulo @Avillac ) who—even without an official invitation—joined in to help us plan and experience all these activities alongside you.
