Mahabaleshwar, many a time called as a queen of hill-stations in Maharashtra, stays my chosen spot to frequent.
The lovely place in the Sahyadri ranges, i.e. the Western Ghats rises approx. 1.3 km above the sea level.
Numerous scenic spots are there which offer extensive views of the forts, hills & valleys around.
Nevertheless, the Arthur’s seat stands the best among them.
The point gets the name of a revenue officer, Arthur Mallet, who used to be seating here for hours after losing his wife and children in an accident.
He was confident about the emergence of his beloved ones through the dense mist that perpetually surrounds the site.
The road to the place goes through a thick tropical forest.
The photo above is a picture of the spot from a distance.
Not visible? Over here is an enlarged and cropped version of the pic.
And now that’s a close up.
The observation deck appears to be overhanging above the Savitri river gorge.
The view of the valley is captivating and scary at the same time.
The original location, which got destroyed in a massive earthquake, was much more terrifying.
The pale grass turns golden once the monsoon is over. Even now, the place does not lose its beauty and charm. Referring to the hills in summer, once a person suddenly exclaimed: “Oh, that’s true natural gold”.
