Meet Jaime Lyn, host of The Review Review

Hi @AriMar ,

Well, for me, this post has been very anticipated one! I am a huge fan of Jaime’s dramatic expression. I think The Review Review has got an incredible host.

Thank you for letting us know some of the interesting views from and facts about her.

Regards from Dhaka, Bangladesh

@AriMar thank you for sharing. I didn’t know Jaime was a YouTube star already. Her presentation style and comedy is quite entertaining. A fun way to review LGs review.

Looking forward to watching more reviews because I know there are tons of reviews on Google Maps:)

Excellent

Jamie Lyn is abrilliant host. Really good. I love watching the The Review Review videos. @AriMar

Dear Jamie Lyn you are a wonderful personality, I learned from this interview. I felt a depth in every word you said. You are a kind, intelligent, soulful and… lucky person . You are learned and adventurous and have tried many exciting & enjoyable things. I loved & agreed to your comments which you gave in reply of the last question about what made reviews your favorite. Thanks @AriMar for this wonderful interview.

I thank Jaime for pointing out that every bit of review counts especially those written by guides or random contributors who truly make the effort to detail their personal experience and sharing it with the world.

Personally, I have been “guiding” in 2 countries and cities between Vietnam and Singapore. And I sensed that moderators need to really get more real than just reviewing reviews.

Firstly, there is a need for more moderators in the cities or countries. Not quite in a Google office halfway across the world. Should we need to moderate, I mean the community of users will be more convinced if it comes from a local guide or moderator.

Secondly, they need to see that they are in a great unique position to drive good initiatives as moderators. Organise meet ups themselves and guide others to learn to arrange meet ups on their own. Grow the community to be more effective in contribution, verification and validation of businesses, places and info.

Third, when it comes to moderating, we don’t really need numbers to be able to see that in certain ways Google Map is losing relevance. The flood of pictures of food and lists of food the tops and bottoms tens of places to eat or food finds. Over skewed content in food really reduces the relevance of Maps, and the Guides programme.

At the end, sure, we now know there are lots of great eateries or not many thereof at where we are. But ultimately, do we remember that we still need to know how to get there? And it is still the primary purpose of Google Maps and Guides.

Moderators need to help push and seek the balance in making the whole eco system of programmes, apps and initiative to work. Pics of sandwiches, pappadums or sushi is not quite enough to get people there. Pics of places, nearby landmarks and proper local knowledge* in reviews are worth way more in this aspect.

Ps. * some places call it subways**, metro, underground, MRT, trains, city railways. Ever wondered how many users lost their way just because no moderators or local guides actually began to start naming it the way it is known locally.

** and some places we know this name as a restaurant chain only.

Bottom line is this, to be relevant is to be useful. To be helpful is to first be available. To be effective and have impact, it needs to be real.

It bothers me when all I can do is drool of pretty food pics and those food cannot find their way into my tummy.

Cheers and guide on!

Bryan (Singapore & Vietnam)

@BryanTan-SG you should log your ideas into the Idea Exchange here on Connect.

@PaulPavlinovich thanks Paul. I will try as I observe the "huh?"s and the "what the…?"s reaction from users when they cannot understand the directions Google Maps announce road names, places of interest, landmarks in an unfamiliar way. It’s ok if the user isn’t on the roads. It gets frustrating when you are on the way, driving or finding the next connecting stop.

I know the feeling @BryanTan-SG that’s why I encourage you to share your idea. I don’t mind the foodie photos, but directions are critical. In New York last year I didn’t understand the subway directions because it talked about coloured lines, but the locals use letters not colours. The maps have coloured circles with the letter in it so there is correlation, the F line for example is orange but until I saw a station and saw the coloured circle I didn’t get it. I did give feedback for that (I’m sure I wasn’t alone) and now the directions have letter and colour. Feedback works.

Hello @AriMar The presentation is so beautiful and simple, so to me it is very friend.

The Review Review is such a good episode, but hope moderator would make more interaction with LGs!

I love the vegan, gluten-free and kosher bagels from Erin McKenna’s Bakery in Santa Monica! They’re shaped a little differently, but the flavors satisfy that bagel shaped hole in my heart.

Wow very nice knowing about Jaime.

I enjoy watching all the episodes of Review of Reviews…

Keep them coming…

Thanks @AriMar
