Anything from a platonic hangout between two chums or pals to a date with the intent to possibly begin romantic relations i.e., Meetup. Every year Bangladesh Local Guide organizes various meetups. But we look forward to this mega meetup which is also called as Connect Day Bangladesh because local guides from different parts of the country come to this meetup. Many local guides share their experiences as the experienced guide them in various directions.

Selection process and some guidelines
On July 17, 2022, the Facebook group page of Bangladesh Local Guides announced the meetup. It is mentioned there that several conditions must be met to participate in this meetup. These are a specified number of posts on the Local Guides Connect forum, contributions to Google Maps and feedback on various posts on the Local Guides Connect forum.
20 July 2022 Forms for registration of meetup participation are provided. By filling the form, I was selected to participate in the mega meet up of Bangladesh Local Guides “Connect Day Bangladesh’22” on 22 July 2022. My confirmed registration no. was BDLG ID: BDLG-111.
Transportation to the venue
2 mini buses were managed for the members of Bangladesh Local Guide. The bus dropped them at the venue in 2 shifts and brought them back together. In that case they have to pay the prescribed fare.
Finally, the long-awaited day has arrived…
Journey to the venue
Although transportation was arranged by the organizers but I took my personal car to the venue. Note that the distance from my house to the venue is 27 kilometers and about 1 hour journey. I reached the venue before the scheduled start time. The host gave a warm welcome.
Reception
On reaching the venue, all the participants were given various gift items mentioning their registration number. The local guides joined the main event by receiving the gifts in a beautiful and orderly fashion.
Introduction phase
The introductory episode was pretty funny. The presenter asked the local guides to say something about each person’s name, district and regional language. We introduced about 120 participants.
Opening ceremony and Group photo session
After the introduction phase we all attended the inauguration ceremony. There we participated in group photography. We got to know each other personally. Then the park tour and the Muslim participants went for Jumma prayers.
Lunch
After the park tour when we were all hungry we arrived at the main venue to find the host ready to serve us lunch. We queued up and took food by displaying food tokens. We took lunch with great enthusiasm.
Main program
After lunch the main discussion program started. Experts discussed our Local Guides Connect forum, contributions to Google Maps and feedback on various posts. We received important guidance from them through various questions. We hope that the knowledge gained from the discussion program will contribute significantly to the future contributions of Bangladesh Local Guides.
Fun, Games and Cultural programs
At the end of the main discussion program, various sports such as spoon race, chair sitting and bottle toss were held. An excellent flute player played the flute and sang for us. We enjoyed every game.
Prize giving ceremony
Finally the prize distribution ceremony was organized. The award ceremony was very organized. Apart from winners in sports, the organizers gave awards based on contributions to Local Guides Connect forum, contributions to Google Maps and feedback on various posts. He also honored those who volunteered to work in the meetup
.
I was awarded for maximum contributions in Local Guides Connect forum.
Happy ending
The event ended without any major mishaps. A ripe palm from the palm tree above caused a slight pain when one of our participants fell on the head. Another large Lizard walked past our main venue.
Last speech
I am proud to be a member of Bangladesh Local Guide which is a part of Google Local Guide. We are guided by the mantra “Show the Way, Know the Way”. In the meantime, some mistakes remain. Organizing and participating in such meetups is very important to clear these misconceptions. It’s not just about organizing a meetup, it’s about successfully completing it. In this aspect, the organizers of Bangladesh Local Guide are successful in all aspects. I don’t want to mention anyone’s name because it was a teamwork. I hope I can contribute to the Google community through more contributions in the coming days.
