McDonalds Happy Meals in Japan!

Okay, I’ve gone too far with things a bit, but I did it and don’t hate on me for it. I ordered a McDonald’s Japan happy meal, only in Japan it is called a “happy set.”

All happy sets come with express train toys and they change all the time. Yes! I got the stares and the look of befuddlement at the cash register. The portion sizes are the same as in the states and just as expensive.

McDonalds customer service is simply 5 stars!!! You get the smiles and the politeness. The restaurants are always super clean and well-maintained. You have to ask for condiments, but most of all they take your tray for you after you finish. They dumb your garbage for you!, and say thank you. The toilets are all clean and free to use to the general public.

Free WiFi, and there are no rules against loitering all day. I see students sleeping all night in McD. They are called “Makudo-Nanmin” It means, McDonald’s refugees!

Coffee and fries are always fresh, and especially the fries are always crispy, hot, and fresh! I have never been to a McDonald’s that gave me cold soggy fries in Japan, and I have been to many.

There is literally no age discrimination in Japan, so I can order a happy set and be happy for my life…lolol…

McDonald’s is the best

So interesting to see the same Happy Meals I see in the US but with a slight twist, @user_not_found !

The nuggets and fries look the same, but I definitely see differences in their sauces, drinks, burgers, sandwiches and more. What is the most unique change in the meal in Japan?

@MukulR haha…Yeah. I enjoyed it, but so many curious onlookers. May I ask where you are from?

@JordanSB Thank you for commenting. I think the biggest change is the egg burger. There’s also a cutlet burger you can order. I think the menu is my dynamic here in Japan than in the U.S. What was your favorite nugget sauce? For me, I still prefer the classics, but occasionally they’ll have wasabi sauce…

Hello @user_not_found ,

Thank you for sharing your Mc Donald’s experience in Japan! From what I’ve read, the service and the rest is completely different from the one we’re used to in Europe, at least in the countries that I’ve visited.

I guess politeness might be a common point, however the toilets are accessed only with a code which is available on the ticket that you receive after buying something, none throws the garbage for you, and most of the time the area is a bit dirty.

I’m a huge fast food consumer and I love it, but the differences are major!

@BorrisS Wow! That’s fascinating how different McDs are in the world. Yea. Toilets are all free to use here at every McDs and is generally open to the public - the toilets are state-of-the-art here! Unlimited towels and toilet paper and smart faucets with automatic hand soap and water dispensers. All in the public toilets at every McDs!

In addition, there are outlets at counter seats and free- Wifi at most McDs. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

@user_not_found , my favorite US-based sauce is pure honey for the nuggets. For Japan, I would say I am most intrigued by the wasabi and teriyaki.

This is great! From what it looks like, I really like the vibe of your McD’s. In he US, we have nothing like the “Makudo-Nanmin” patrons. It would be really great if we did. In general, McD’s serves us OK food, customer service, and cleanliness. Nothing to write home about. I’m just glad that other places like yours have great experiences!

@PaulJahn Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I am picky about McDs. I grew up on McDs, so I expect customer service to be great.

Have you been to Japan before?
