Mata Vaishno Devi Pilgrimage: A Divine Experience with Google Guide

The Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra is a journey that is undertaken by millions of devotees every year (My friend have done 75+ Yatras in last 20 years).

The yatra begins at Katra, which is located at the base of the Trikuta Mountains. From there, pilgrims must trek for approximately 12 kilometers to reach the temple of Mata Vaishno Devi, which is located at an altitude of 5,200 feet. The trek can be completed on foot (The trek is arduous and can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours, depending on the fitness level of the pilgrim) or you can hire a pony, a palanquin, or a helicopter service to reach the temple.

The helicopter service is available from Katra to Sanjichhat, which is located approximately 2.5 kilometers from the temple. From Sanjichhat, you will have to trek the remaining distance to reach the temple. We completed this trek within 8 hours (Both Side) with some breaks for snacks & photo sessions.

On Saturday evening, we booked seats on the Shakti Express which departs from New Delhi railway station at 07:05 pm. We opted for seats in the third AC and paid ₹1400 per person. It’s worth noting that the ticket prices may differ based on the type of seat you choose to book.

After a good night’s sleep, we arrived at Katra railway station at approximately 5:30 AM.

Don’t forget to collect your RFID at the station upon arrival to save time.

We traveled by an auto from the station to the entry gate and obtained our RFID tags to commence our journey. The initial 6 kilometers to Ardhkuwari, which make up half the distance, were quite steep. However, after that, we encountered a newly constructed path that was clean and easy to walk on.

We spent approximately an hour waiting in the queue to offer our prayers to the deity. Fortunately, the crowd was not very large, so we did not have to wait for extended periods, and we were able to worship without any inconvenience.

Along the way, pilgrims are greeted by a breathtaking landscape of mountains, forests, and streams. They pass through several checkpoints, where their documents are checked, and they are given a slip that is required to enter the temple. There are also several rest stops along the way, where pilgrims can take a break and refresh themselves.

The temple complex also includes several other shrines and prayer halls, where pilgrims can offer their prayers and seek blessings. The entire complex is designed to accommodate the needs of the pilgrims, with facilities such as restrooms, accommodations(shrine board room and dormitory services at a lower cost), and medical facilities available.

The newly built cable car now connects Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan to Bhairon Baba Mandir, enabling you to reach the destination in just 5 minutes with ease. A ticket for the Vaishno Devi bhawan to Bhairo Baba Temple ropeway costs 100 INR per individual (for both sides).

Also, Started a battery rickshaw service for the elderly (Only for aged & specially challenged persons) is a wonderful initiative by shrine board.

Here are some tips for a comfortable and safe yatra experience:

#Plan your trip in advance: Make sure to book your accommodation, transport, and helicopter tickets (if required) well in advance to avoid any last-minute hassles.

#Wear comfortable clothes and footwear: The trek to the shrine involves a steep uphill climb, so it’s essential to wear comfortable clothes and sport shoes.

#Carry Limited things because all type snacks are available

#Follow the instructions and guidelines provided by the authorities and the shrine board for a safe and smooth yatra experience.

#Keep the trek path clean and avoid littering. Do not disturb the natural environment (Specially Monkey & other animals) around the shrine.

BE cautious of the steep slopes, and take rest breaks when necessary. If you feel unwell, seek medical help immediately.

IT is recommended that you avoid carrying mobile phones or any animal products when visiting the shrine. If you have such items with you, it is advisable to store them in a locker before heading to Bhawan.
