About #MapsForAll series
#MapsForAll began with a simple belief — Google Maps should be usable and welcoming for everyone. This initiative focuses on improving accessibility and inclusion by encouraging Local Guides to add meaningful details such as wheelchair accessibility, entrances, parking, elevators, seating, and other helpful information that often goes unnoticed. The series also focuses on creating awareness and ensuring our contributions on Maps and Connect reflect the diversity around us and is inclusive.
Through community conversations, blog posts, and meetups, #MapsForAll highlights the importance of mapping with empathy — keeping in mind seniors, PwDs and their carers, neurodiverse users, and anyone navigating new or unfamiliar places. Small, thoughtful map edits can make a big difference by helping people move with more confidence, independence, and dignity. I started this series in 2021 , you can read more about it here. You can see the journey below :
Plan for this year
As we step into the new year, I’m excited to restart #MapsForAll . A very big Thank you to all who have contributed so far towards the #MapsForAll initiative since 2021 ! Let’s keep up the momentum ! The plan for this year is to focus on meet-ups and write posts that will help Local Guides understand what to check, what to add, and why it matters when contributing accessibility and inclusivity details on Google Maps. The focus is on practical, real-world contributions that help make cities easier to navigate for everyone — one place, one edit at a time.
Get Involved
#MapsForAll has always been shaped by the Local Guides community. If you’re interested in accessibility, inclusive mapping, storytelling, or simply making your city more welcoming, there are many ways to be part of this journey — from contributing map edits and sharing experiences to joining conversations or collaborating on meetups.
I’d love to connect with fellow Local Guides who believe that inclusion belongs at the heart of mapping.
Watch this space for upcoming #MapsForAll conversations, and feel free to drop a comment if you’d like to collaborate or participate. This will be the main post with all the #mapsforall post links.
