#MapsForAll : An Ongoing Journey Towards Accessible & Inclusive Mapping🌍

:sparkles: About #MapsForAll series

#MapsForAll began with a simple belief — Google Maps should be usable and welcoming for everyone. This initiative focuses on improving accessibility and inclusion by encouraging Local Guides to add meaningful details such as wheelchair accessibility, entrances, parking, elevators, seating, and other helpful information that often goes unnoticed. The series also focuses on creating awareness and ensuring our contributions on Maps and Connect reflect the diversity around us and is inclusive.

Through community conversations, blog posts, and meetups, #MapsForAll highlights the importance of mapping with empathy — keeping in mind seniors, PwDs and their carers, neurodiverse users, and anyone navigating new or unfamiliar places. Small, thoughtful map edits can make a big difference by helping people move with more confidence, independence, and dignity. I started this series in 2021 , you can read more about it here. You can see the journey below :

:round_pushpin: Plan for this year

As we step into the new year, I’m excited to restart #MapsForAll . A very big Thank you to all who have contributed so far towards the #MapsForAll initiative since 2021 ! Let’s keep up the momentum ! The plan for this year is to focus on meet-ups and write posts that will help Local Guides understand what to check, what to add, and why it matters when contributing accessibility and inclusivity details on Google Maps. The focus is on practical, real-world contributions that help make cities easier to navigate for everyone — one place, one edit at a time.

:handshake: Get Involved

#MapsForAll has always been shaped by the Local Guides community. If you’re interested in accessibility, inclusive mapping, storytelling, or simply making your city more welcoming, there are many ways to be part of this journey — from contributing map edits and sharing experiences to joining conversations or collaborating on meetups.
I’d love to connect with fellow Local Guides who believe that inclusion belongs at the heart of mapping.

@Globe_trotter_Ish I believe that this is one of our greatest challenges: to think not only about the general situation, but also about the collective, and to be certain that people have varying needs and require a lot of information.

Let’s work together to create a map with appropriate and relevant information for everyone.

I agree @GasparKaren ! If each one of us make sure to include accessibility and inclusivity details in the reviews or Map editing options for the local businesses we visit , together we all can have a greater impact ! That’s the goal :slightly_smiling_face: Let me know if you wish to co-host any meet-up to increase awareness. Thanks !

We are hosting the Dapoli meetup on 20th Feb and the kick off would be accessibility checks at Khed railway Station

If that’s relevant to #MapsForAll, please include in the series

Hi @Globe_trotter_Ish
The topic of accessibility is increasingly topical. When I add a place or visit a place, in the Google Maps Q&A section, I notice that I’m always asked if the place is accessible to people with disabilities and if there is accessible parking.
This makes me very happy.
Congratulations on your work, your goals, and your great support.
