Suddenly I thought of posting a story about Origin & First Map of the World.
We all NOW part of GOOGLE MAPS,
and I bet many of you never attempted to learn ( by Google search only) or curious to know Who draw the first Map of this world?
For the past ten days I was completely involved in Google Maps, looking for directions, distance and places around those locations. It was a complete Virtual Tour.
We are planning for long 1500Km trip to historical place in South East of Indian Coast and our visit is based on my search in GM.
I searched Satellite, terrain, Traffic and even Google Earth. Ok coming to the Subject Matter, suddenly I remembered the year 1978, I suppose to join a school as a teacher in a Mission School in a West African State and I didn’t know where that country was located.
I bought an Atlas and searched.
How many remember the days of looking at Atlas, a compulsory for
Geography Class?
Those days Printed World Maps, were hanging in class rooms, people were selling Printed Maps for Cities, Roads, even for a complete region.
I still have some collection of Maps.
You open the folder type books, folded neatly inside a very big sheet of map.
I remember seeing many holding those maps looking for directions to their Places.
There are more memories to share, but let me conclude that GOOGLE the Pioneer of Digitalizing the MAPS and I am not aware of any other who can give the MAPS in different view… I like Satellite view and in Google Earth the 3D VIEW.
