Maps changed my perspective on how I viewed my city and how I travel

I’m 61 years old and my children always joke that I use Google Reviews and social media more than a millennial. I was big on Trip Advisor and was introduced to Google Reviews from my daughter, as I was looking for a way to give feedback on a local restaurant we had discovered that wasn’t featured on Trip Advisor. I found Google Reviews much easier to use and I loved that it recorded the timeline of all the places I had visited.

It started out as a personal diary log for me, I would review places I visited so that I could find it again when friends or family were looking for recommendations. Then I started getting notifications from Google that my reviews and photographs were reaching hundreds, then thousands of people.

My children have commented that I became alot more present, adventurous and aware of my surroundings when using Maps. I make more of an effort to really seek out and discover more interesting places in my local community and also when I travel. Previously I wasn’t bothered with exploring much of local city but since becoming a local guide, my husband (who is also a local guide!) and I have taken our friends on adventures based off places we documented on Google.

Through Maps I had more initiative to explore beyond the beaten track as being able to share my finds with the wider community and world really got me excited. I don’t have the best memory so I love looking back on my reviews as it brings back memories of where I’ve been, things I’ve done and the good times I’ve had.
