Maps blocking or slowing down publication of contributor updates

I have a bit of a problem with Google maps and the way it allows updates from contributors such as myself.

I have been contributing to Maps for years and have achieved Level 8 status (16,322 points).

However I have found how my contribution sometimes means very little. How easy Maps dismisses it.

Example 1: A local recycling centre which is missing from Maps I have tried to create several times and all data provided but it has been rejected on several occasions. I have now given up doing it as it seems to be pointless.

There was recently a road closure which weirdly seemed to remain closed. I drove on it and not a hint of a problem. I tried to un-close the road MANY MANY times and it has thousands of vehicles passing through the section of the road but no, Maps will not budge and re-open it. Even after the closure was removed it Maps would still not route my path through that section.

Then several times I tried to mark a road as closed and Maps was so reluctant to close it.

Now I do understand that Maps needs to be careful to abuse but surely they should use some AI and the fact I have contributed so much that I should be a little more trustworthy. Its almost treating me like a noob contributor.

This problem has escalated in the recent floods where Maps was not keeping up to date with the closures of roads (and then being re-opened)

I think Google needs to improve their algorithms on how it treats updates to maps, it needs to be faster and I think the more reliable contributor you are it should matter as much.

Thank you

hi @McDragon ! This is not a post about travel so maybe better change the Topic.

Anyway I think it’s a good thing that Maps is very careful about these kind of edits and I don’t think is a question of trustworthy user but these kind of edits requires maybe more than one user that suggest them.

If it were only a matter of points, unfortunately it would be very easy for some malicious person to accumulate them to take advantage of the “trust” of Maps.

Maybe you can ask help to your local community so they can evaluate the edit and propose it themself.

In this way the team can keep Maps clean.

Hi @McDragon ,

Thanks for reaching out!

I’m moving your post to the How-tos section, as that is the place where you can ask questions or flag problems with Connect or Google Maps.
