Map alignment issue in my town

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to fix a map issue in my town (Pedernales, Buenos Aires, Argentina).

Some streets and blocks appear misaligned and slightly rotated, and they don’t match the real layout on the ground. It looks like the base map or imagery is shifted.

What is the correct way to report or fix this kind of problem in Google Maps?
Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @Attor

The following help desk article explains how to edit roads.

Add or fix a road.

The desktop version of Maps allows drawing or editing the roads.

Thanks, that’s very helpful.
Once a road edit or map correction is submitted, how long does it usually take for the changes to be reviewed and applied?

Usually, the system needs two to three weeks to verify the facts, though sometimes it can take up to 90 days.

Hi @Attor , thank you for asking
In the future adding a link to the position in Google Maps may help to better understand the issue.
There are various way to edit a road, depending of the device you are using (desktop computer or mobile phone) as mentioned in the article shared by @NareshDarji
In this case it’s a minor issue, because the wrong shape doesn’t effect the navigation nor Street View, that’s available in the whole area, with some small exception for roads that in Sep 2024 were probably considered not public

In any case I see that someone edited the roads just today, using the desktop version of Google Maps. Was it you?

What I can see is that the edit is correct. However the possibility to have it approved are very limited, due to the fact that, as I mentioned above, the issue doesn’t affect navigation and Street View. This gives to the modification “a very low priority” for Google Maps.

Many reported that on mobile it works better. You just need to select the road and report the “wrong shape” for Google to take care of it

Thanks for confirming, @Attor
Please be aware that an edit with low priority may remain in pending status for up to 90 days

Hi @Attor,

great to see you’re starting with “Roads Edit”! Well done!
I consider this activity a very important work, and I hope to see you joining the next TRAC Campaign that @SholaIB will hopefully announce soon. It’s a fantastic initiative where a group of Local Guides work together to improve roads.
This [summary] (https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t/index-page-for-trac-all-you-need-to-know/404911) gives a good overview of what TRAC is all about.

Regarding the specific issues you’re encountering, here’s my experience.
I’ve tried numerous times to fix these kinds of misalignments. As @ErmesT also pointed out, they’re often considered very low priority and are usually not approved.

Unfortunately, we can only go by our own experience and what we’ve seen.
Happy to share with you a few examples and their GPS coordinates if you’d like to try perhaps you’ll have more success than I did!

When I attempt something unusual or experimental, I typically save the work on my calendar to be reviewed after about four months. For instance, I’ve updated and redrawn certain roads many times over the LAST THREE YEARS with no success.

My personal advice? Skip them! Focus your efforts on edits that are more likely to be approved.

Take care and enjoy life
Ciao
Marco
