Mandeville Trailhead Community Farmer's Market Is A Special Place For Sharing

Every Saturday from 9AM to 1PM, my town has a fantastic farmer’s market, the Mandeville Trailhead Community Farmer’s Market, where people come from all around to sell all varieties of special handmade creations! Local farms bring fresh vegetables, eggs, honey, and even handmade soaps. There are Louisiana specialties like stuffed artichokes, muffulettas, jambalaya, pralines and lots of tamales! You can see art work made from oysters locally sourced, and themed with Louisiana icons such as the fleur-de-lis (the french lily), the pelican (our state bird), and of course lots of LSU (Geaux Tigers!).

There is a different live band every week and families sit on the grass and enjoy the music with homemade watermelon punch if they like! Sometimes food trucks from local businesses also provide delicious selections to choose from. The artisans bring jewelry, hand woven baskets, ceramics, plants, even local animal rescues bring dogs for adoption.

I love our Community Farmer’s Market. It is at the trailhead of one of my favorite places, the Tammany Trace, the 31 mile hiking trail that is another spot I am so proud of in my little town! I have taken many photos for both Google Maps here, and 360 photos for Street View as well, and included the Trace on my lists Trails And Paths To Fitness! as well as Walk!Hike!Run!Bike!MandevillesGems:

Many people come to visit Louisiana to see New Orleans, which is where I grew up. I moved to the Mandeville area 26 years ago and fell in love with it. I highly encourage everyone to come visit whenever you get the chance!

Hello @lynneannec ,

Thank you for sharing this amazing location and great photos with us.

I’m a huge fan of such places, where you can find homemade things and products. In Bulgaria, we have similar markets, a bit expensive from the normal once, but the quality of the products is way better.

Do you participate in this market with a product or you like to visit only and spend a great time?

  1. Thank you @BorrisS . Right now, I just love hiking up to the Market, maybe having something to eat and hiking back home. I have made several purchases also, then my husband has to bring the car to get them, lol! At one time I thought about selling these seasonal wreaths I was making, at the Market, but changed my mind. It was taking too much time away from my family, so I stopped making them for other people, although we have so many in OUR home! Here is a photo of a lady’s door with a garland I made, with handpainted masks I created, and also two wreaths I made for Mardi Gras, a couple of years ago. I hope you enjoy them

Hello @lynneannec ,

Congratulations for what you did! Before reading your answer, and only by seeing the photo, I thought that it was a Venetian decoration used for the Venice carnival.

@lynneannec thanks for sharing. I love browsing through markets, and these look amazing. If you had to pick your favourite product or item here, what would it be and why?

@JustineE There is such a variety at the market, I don’t know if I could pick a favorite! On this past weekend, if money was no object at all, I would have bought some of the art work. I loved the colorful art of the long fish painted on wood, and then the scales made of oysters. It really represents Louisiana, which I love! Thank you for asking!

Thanks for sharing. I love local market. Products are usually fresh, natural and cheap. There is one in neighborhood that open only on Saturday. We also have winter open market too where they sell frozen meat and fish in the open. Open market is something I often look forward to.

Hi @lynneannec . The close up photos of these fish are really amazing. What a unique concept- to have the oysters as scales. Amazing! Now, the really important question- where would you put it?:joy:

@JustineE using oyster shells in art is extremely popular in Louisiana and can be quite expensive. The fish art in my photo sell for $175.00 each. I would hang them on the wall in my living room if I could afford it. I love Louisiana themed and tropical decor.
