Manaqish in Berlin

The Levantine Kitchen is well known and famous for the middle eastern “Pizza” called “Manaqish” (مناقیش). Thanks to the big Arab community here in Berlin, they introduced our taste to this wonderful handmade bread, combined with different toppings. No manaqish is the same as another; the way it is made, the ingredients and the taste differ depending on the region of origin, the town or village and the traditions associated with it. The classic manaqish is manaqish za’atar with thyme. Find the best places in Berlin in my list. Enjoy.

Hi @FeligeBachlini ,

Welcome back to Connect and thanks for sharing your experience with us! As I can see, there is something similar to pizza in every culture, especially the ones around the Mediterranean. “Pizza” is one of the most famous Italian words in the world and its origin is a sign of a common ancient tradition of adding toppings on a flat bread.

The manaqish seems to be part of the pizza family too. :slightly_smiling_face: If I will ever go back to Berlin one day, I hope soon, I will definitely take advantage of your helpful list. For the ones interested in creating lists, I suggest this article: How to make great restaurant lists on Google Maps.

Thanks for your comment! Totally agree on that. I think the most crucial point for pizza Italian style is the use of tomato sauce. At least in traditional Syrian or Libanese manaqish places that part is “forbidden”

Hi @FeligeBachlini ,

Thanks for your reply! I almost missed it, in case you didn’t know it, you can tag a member when you write a comment. This way you send a notification and the Local Guide knows that you are talking to them. To do so, you just need to add the symbol @ before their name, without space in between, like I did with you.
