I am very much passionate about ancient heritage and ancient art architecture are my favourite.
Gyaraspur is about 100 kms from my home town ei Bhopal. I asked to my wife about this visit and she was agreed to join. And it was December 2017 we reached in one and half hour to our destination by Car. Maladevi is a Major attraction so we were at the site.
Maladevi Temple is a grand architectural marvel of Ninth century AD, situated on the eastern slope of a hill and built on a huge platform cut out of the hillside and strengthened by a massive retaining wall. Maladevi temple is in fact imposing and astonishing building, provides a panoramic valley view, in Gyaraspur, about 40 Kms away from District Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, India, which can be accessed through NH-146.
Though now Jain images occupy the shrine room and hall, a figure of a Goddess occupying the dedicatory block on the outer door frame of Ganga, Yamuna and other God goddess, which can be recognized by their significant vehicles as Ganga used to ride Crcodile and yamuna a tortoise and Goddess Vaishnav a lion and other decorative sculptures probably indicate that the temple was originally dedicated to some Goddess and it was subsequently appropriated by the Jains.
This Jain temple is richly carved magnificent structure, as comprising an entrance porch, a hall and a sanctum have the four large images of Jain Tirthankaras in Padmasan a form yoga sitting in the Lotus style, is partly rock cut and is surrounded by an ambulatory through the caves and crowned by a lofty Pyramidal dome. This temple is containing Demi God, Goddess and Tirthankar.
It has an iscription in Sanskirat or Pali on a pillar of Porch, on which I could read Devi and Putr means Son Kamal.
Archaeological Survey Of India is taking the measures to check the further damages and also how to restore. Nearby attractions are Hindola Torana, Vajramath, Dhaki Hill Stupa etc. It has many ancient attractions for visitors and a perfect opportunity to be a part of the grand era. Food and beverages are available, to enjoy the visit have little as this temple have excellent workmanship and Carving on sandstone is unique example of architecture of its time.
This visit was much dedicated to the India’s renowned Lady Biker Veenu Paliwal who lost her life in a road accident on 12th April 2016 at this place.
