Making a dream come true - A trip to Antarctica
The last wilderness in the world.
Since I was 13 years old, I had a dream to go to Antarctica and travel to the Antarctic continent.
I used to say to my family and friends - “one day I will get to Antarctica, I will be there”.
As I grew up I understood that one of the main goals in life is to make my dreams come true and live the way I think would make me happy.
When I finished my service in the army I started planning a big trip to the US and Latin America, the only part that I knew, without any doubt, was that I’m going to be in Antarctica as part of this trip.
I started to explore the options and possibilities for that kind of trip, checking the possibility to work on a ship, reading and trying to understand the difference between all the possible expeditions. After reading and talking with a lot of people I decided that I want to go on a small expedition.
I emailed every company I could find online and ask them for offers.
The offers started coming, Then I discovered all the offers they had left are much higher than my budget, and unfortunately I can’t afford myself the trip I wanted.
I decided I’m not going to quit so fast, and asked each one of them to keep me in mind and send me any offer they get that is in my budget, cancelation or different deals.
After two weeks of long waiting and constantly checking my mailbox I got an offer that fits perfectly for what I wanted.
I was so happy!
3 months later I stood in Ushuaia, Argentina, embarking on the ship and starting one of the most amazing experiences I had in my life.
That’s how 11 years after dreaming it for the first time, in 24 I stood for the first time on Antarctica’s land. And hopefully, it won’t be the last time.
The two biggest lessons I got from this were
- Dream big, remember what your life goals are and make them come true.
- You know what would make you happy, don’t give up on it.
