We were in Banswara after having a night halt in Ratlam. As we were coming from the Mandu and Banswara was our next destination in the month of January 2019. After reaching to Banswara our first sight was the famous Mahi Dam.
It’s a beautiful and popular attraction in Banswara just 20 kms away from the centre. It’s is situated in the Vaneshwar village. It’s a hydroelectric power generation and agricultural dam having 16 shutters. It’s surrounded by many tribal areas hence serving it’s purpose. It was built 1972 to 1983 and was commissioned in 1986. One has to access the dam’s reservoir by steps around 150 in numbers. First glimpse itself is fascinating. As having an area about 6150 square kilometres. It’s built on Mahi River under Mahi Bajajsagar Pariyojana named after the renowned Industrialist Jamuna Lal Bajaj. It offers excellent and panoramic views of surrounding. A place worth to visit. Reservoir is just superb like a large lake with the feel of ocean. Bhugra canal is the main canal to supply the Reserve water to the area where these are having the canals network. It’s a lifeline for the areas which are being fed by this water. Because of this dam lifestyle is getting changed by bumper crafts and many development are observed. It’s a major tourists attraction and famous picnic spot. For to and fro journey and the visit needs minimum 4 hours. And nearest attraction is Tripurasundari Temple. Boating facility is not available.
Human settlements were established near some other water source. It’s sincere request to all of us to save water as much as possible for ourselves and for generations to come. As these initiatives and steps are the signs of prosperity.
