Maharaja Bhog…Royal Meals
You are ushered into the restaurant and seated at a table. A staff brings a Thali (metal plate) and you have to take a coin and offer it to the Cow (as the photograph shows)
And take second helpings of what ever you like more. There are Dals, Rice, Pickles, Papads, Salads, Rotis, Vegetables, Kadhi, Sweet Mango Pulp, Chutneys, Dhokla, & Dessert.
Thank you for sharing with us. Is it the same in all restaurants in your city or this is special one? I see many different dishes, which is your favourite one? It would be great if you share more details about the Betel Leaf as well because I have never heard of it.
Thanks for your reply. We have a variety of restaurants in India. There are NEWS (north, south, east, west) types of food. And quick service ones like McDonald’s, Taco, Subway. I will put up a post about the Paan i.e. Betel Leaf.
NEWS is just an acronym I used to mean North, South, East, West. India is huge and we have a wide variety of food. North Indian food is different from the South Indian food & these are different from what is eaten in the West and East. Even the cooking medium i.e. oil used is different. Mustard oil is used in the North & Coconut oil is used in the South. Ingredients, the spices or masalas are different too. North drinks Tea or Chai, South drinks Coffee, specially filter coffee.
Some of the ingredients of Paan are fennel seeds, dates, gulkand (preserve of rose petals).
Anil has been selling Gilory Meetha Paan since twenty years. It is sold for INR 20/- each (about 26 cents at current exchange rates). This is at Law Garden, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
Thank you for the detailed information you provide us. It is very interesting to see the different tastes and traditions even in the same country.
The video of Gilory Meetha Paan is also very attractive. Please keep in mind that we do not allow the promotion of any nature here on Connect — self-promotion, commercial content, etc. are in violation of the Local Guides program rules.
By the way, I merged your post about Paan in your previous post because it is related and we want to keep Connect organized.
