Magnificent Shiva Statue of Aazhimala, Kerala

The Lord Shiva statue of Aazhimala in Aazhimala Shiva Temple is very famous and admired by thousands of devotees for the most amazing masculine sculpture. The statue is also known as Gangadhareshwara as Lord Shiva is holiding Devi Ganga in his hair strands. The statue is 52 ft high and recently completed (probably in 2019-2020) This temple is just adjacent of Aazhimala sea beach and cliff near Poovar -Kovalam road in Trivandrum, Kerala. It takes approx. 45 mins to reach from trivandrum city (21 km from Trivandrum city). This Shiva statue is very unique in this temple which makes this place very famous. Though the statue is new but the temple dates back to the era of Mahabharata. It is believed that this place was one of the safehouse for Pandavas during their exile. The temple was made during 16th century. If you visit the over hyped Kovalam beach then this temple worth a visit. One can take an autorickshaw/tuktuk to reach Aazhimala from Kovalam sea beach ( distance 10 km). Temple timing is 5 a.m - 11a.m. and 5 p.m - 8 p.m everyday.
