Lost a lot of points suddenly

Hi @NileshNag ,

Hmm, I’m not sure for how long your past activity (including Answers on Maps) is stored once you turn off your Web & App Activity. The Auto delete can be set for a maximum of 36 months, so there’s a chance that data is removed 36 months after turning off your entire Activity.

I will check with the team if this could be the reason for the sudden loss of points in your case. But it might also be worth reaching out in the Google Account Help Community.

Yes @DeniGu I’m too skeptical about how long my data is stored after turning off web and app activity. And I didn’t choose auto delete.

Even if we consider that I had deleted all my activity before turning off web and app activity, would it take 2-3 years for the changes to take place?

And I had 100258 points as of 1/1/2020, and the next 6-7k points I had earned in the last 4 years were through edits, reviews and photos/videos , so I doubt answers/ web and app activity could be the cause.

Though I’ve posted regarding this in the Google Account Help community as per your suggestion. I’ll let you know what I gather.

Thank you once again for all the assistance.

I thought autodelete only impacted replies to posted questions from other profiles on google. I don’t answer a lot of posted questions. I do the fact checker, pictures, reviews and I don’t go back and remove old reviews or pictures. I don’t understand why the points went missing. At one point there was a block of points added. My settings were the same for the past 7 years prior to this and I have not seen a point loss like this before. I use google maps a lot to find things and web to preshop. And just answer a lot of questions.

Hi @Tankgirl , thank you for the additional info.

@NileshNag Did you also notice a large number of points being added to your profile before the loss of points you experienced?

@DeniGu

No, I did not receive any large number of points before the sudden loss took place.

I had earned 106500+ points, from what I remember, before the points disappeared last month.

Also, I haven’t received any response on the Google Account Help community.

Hi @NileshNag and @Tankgirl ,

After a thorough investigation, the responsible team confirmed that your Local Guides points are currently accurate. There seems to have been a recent glitch where the system awarded more points than needed, which were later revoked. Please rest assured that the numbers you see in your profiles now are correct.

Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for the patience while we were looking into this!

Hi @DeniGu

I’ve been a Level 10 LG since the past 4 years, and if the recent glitch awarded more points, there was NO sudden gain/increase in my points.

I had 106500+ points before the loss, and have 97198 points currently. And as I’ve said earlier, I became a level 10 LG on 01/01/2020 and then my points were 100258.

So the recent glitch can’t be 4 years old, right??

If I had become a level 10 recently, I would have accepted this reason but that’s not the case here. And my connect profile still shows that I’m a level 10, which has been the same from the last 4 years.

Also, I’ve found a few things. Please check out my post on the Google Maps Help forum here

Hi, I recently found this thread and I am experiencing the same issue. It is summarized here (Sudden drop in points and review counts, but still public and visible) Briefly, a few weeks ago I had a significant drop in both points and review counts in my profile overnight. Since then no matter what I do (new reviews, new photos), the review counts are not going up. In addition I do not have hidden or private reviews that may account for this “punishment”. After reading this thread it seems it is a glitch on google maps end. Can any of the google moderators here (such as @DeniGu, @AngieYC) please help me out or escalate the issue? Many thanks in advance!!! This is my profile Trachemysta
